    Clinical Nurse, Chemotherapy Unit

    Responsibilities:

    • Assess patients for chemotherapy to ensure their physical condition and blood parameters are satisfactory to safely receive treatment according to treatment protocols / regimes.
    • Administer intravenous and oral chemotherapy, and safely dispose of Chemo contaminated material in accordance with Hospital Safety Guidelines
    • Provide information regarding treatment and chemo side effects to ensure each patient is prepared for their specific treatment and elicit informed consent
    • Provide one to one and telephone advice to patients and their families regarding treatment side effects and management of side effects to ensure each patient receives care which is specific and appropriate to their needs
    • Assess patient’s readiness for radiotherapy, through history taking and physical examination.
    • Closely monitor patients undergoing Chemotherapy and other treatments, be able to identify reactions/complications, communicate the reactions/ complications to the physician and participate in management of the same
    • Recognize and provide psychological and emotional support to patients and their families, and be able to refer to counsellors when appropriate
    • Observe infection control guidelines while caring for central venous lines, and be able to advise patients about care of those lines in the home setting   
    • Be proficient in administration of other intravenous therapies i.e. Blood and blood products, bisphosphonates and IV fluids
    • Utilize evidence-based tools in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualized care to patients
    • Provide a high standard of holistic care encompassing physical, psychological, spiritual and social care to patients and families.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines for staff and patients, reporting any accidents, incidents, hazards or equipment defects in accordance with laid down policies

    Requirements:

    • Registered Nurse from a recognized school of nursing or University
    • Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care hospital

    Clinical Nurse, Critical Care Units

    Responsibilities:

    • Complete assessment and re-assessment of patients to identify their care needs
    • Develop written care plans based on patients changing needs, monitor and evaluate effectiveness of interventions
    • Initiate cardiac monitoring both room and central, be able to interpret monitor trends and communicate critical changes to the physician and Nurse manager
    • Carry out other hemodynamic monitoring to include CVP, ICP, neurological and fluid status; lab, radiological and ABG evaluations
    • Document all assessment data, investigation results, care given, discussions with the multidisciplinary team, family/patient interactions in an accurate, comprehensive and timely manner
    • Prepare for and assist the physician in emergency procedures necessary for prompt control of patient’s condition e.g. intubation, insertion of invasive lines and drains
    • Initiates mechanical ventilation (invasive and non-invasive) based on physician orders
    • Assess patient’s readiness for weaning and implement the weaning and extubation protocols
    • Maintain adequate airway management to include oxygen therapy, nebulization and suctioning
    • Perform pain assessment and initiate analgesia as per protocol
    • Be able to perform hemodialysis as instructed, care for patient undergoing hemodialysis and disconnect patient from the Hemodialysis upon completion of the therapy
    • Accurately administer all medication as per the treatment order sheet. Particular attention is drawn to inotropic support: dilution, calculation and infusion
    • Identify patient and family education needs and implement appropriate teaching 
    • Be able to commence enteral feeds as prescribed, assess absorption and elimination and give feedback as appropriate
    • Be able to recognize a patient in a pre- arrest or arrest states, and to activate Emergency Response Team and actively participate in the resuscitation of the patient
    • Provide safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies, and perform timely safety checks on beds, IV pumps, oxygen source, ventilators and cardiac monitors. 
    • Be accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of ward stock drugs and consumables
    • Care for equipment through proper cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely reporting and follow up of nonfunctional equipment to the nurse manager
    • Participate in unit based nursing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, clinical care program certification (CCPC), audits, spot checks and skill checks
    • Participate in orientation of new staff and provide mentorship to junior nurses and students
    • Participate in unit based nursing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, audits, spot checks and skill checks
    •   Assist in other related Critical Care Units in time of low census
    •   Any other assignment that is deemed appropriate for this level.

    Requirements:

    • Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing from a recognized school of nursing or University
    • Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Demonstrate evidence based knowledge of current practices in Critical Care nursing

    Locum Audiologist

    Responsibilities:

    • Examine patients with ear, hearing or balance and other related problems using equipment such as audiometers, speech analysers
    • Conduct the prescribed hearing tests, understand, interpret findings, and determine if hearing impairment is conductive or sensorineural in nature
    • Provide patients with hearing aids or refer for potential cochlear implant
    • Evaluate all patients on follow up on the current condition and make note of any developments or changes
    • Educate patients on ways to prevent or delay hearing loss
    • Work in collaboration with other specialty in a multi-disciplinary approach to include newborn, paediatric and adult hearing screening
    • Maintain records of audiograms and ensure patient confidentiality
    • Assess patient and family education needs and provides appropriate teaching based on their needs
    • Instruct patient and family regarding investigations and follow up clinic appointments
    • Observe infection control practices and maintains a clean and safe work environment for staff and patients
    • Participate in data collection and monitoring of unit-based quality indicators
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines for staff and patients, reporting any accidents, incidents, hazards, or equipment defects in accordance with laid down policies
    • Participate in unit based continuing education, quality improvement (QI) projects

    Requirements:

    • Diploma in Clinical Audiology
    • Minimum 2 years of working in a busy Audiology facility, with expertise in paediatrics
    • Demonstrate adequate knowledge as well as skills to conduct and interpret Pure Tone Audiometry, Speech Audiometry, tympanometry Transient Evoked Otoacoustic, Emissions Brain Evoked Response Auditory/ Auditory Brainstem Response, Neonatal Screening and Visual Reinforcement Audiology
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Excellent written and Verbal communication skill
