    Clinical Nurse, Maternity

    Responsibilities:

    • Complete initial assessment and re-assessment of obstetric mothers and new-born babies to identify their care needs
    • Document all assessment data, investigation results, care given, discussions with the multidisciplinary team, family/patient interactions in an accurate, comprehensive and timely manner
    • Develops and implements prepartum, intrapartum, post-partum and new born care plan
    • Proficient in Management of labour, delivery and third stage
    • Ability to perform and repair episiotomy
    • Ability to repair first and second degree tears
    • Carry out and interpret Cardiotocography (CTG) and Non Stress Test (NST) and act on findings
    • Administers safely and is knowledgeable about medications routinely used in obstetrics
    • Is able to recognize obstetric and neonatal emergencies and involve multidisciplinary team as appropriate
    • Initiates timely initial immunizations for new borns as per guidelines
    • Proficiency in caring for mothers’ post- surgical procedures
    • Perform timely safety checks on equipment as per policy guidelines

    Requirements:

    • KRCHN/KRM/BScN from a recognized school of Nursing or University
    • Current Licensure with the Nursing council of Kenya
    • Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Certification in advanced life support in obstetrics ( ALSO)
    • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an acute care hospital.
    • Demonstrate evidence based knowledge of current practices in Obstetric nursing

    Research Assistant, Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health

    Job Summary

    This position is required to contribute to refining the existing neonatal training courses that we have developed/ continue to develop for health care workers in Africa. In addition, as funding becomes available, the Research Assistant will be required to support with qualitative and quantitative data collection from learners to understand their experiences of using the learning resources on the course.

    The successful candidate will be primarily involved in reviewing the existing problems in the eLearning neonatal nutrition training platform and reaching out to learners undertaking the course to address any challenges navigating the learning environment.

    He/she will be required to be sensitive and considerate throughout the encounter with learners. He / She will be the face of the AKU-led neonatal training programmes and will be required to display a professional attitude at all times.

    This position is based at the Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health in Nairobi. The role may include some local travel to meet groups of learn ers for support and training on using online learning platforms. The role may also require out of hours work on nights, weekends and public holidays.

     Responsibilities

    • Lead on evaluation of AKU-led neonatal training programmes;
    • Design data collection tools for course evaluations;
    • Collect data from learners on their experiences of accessing the online neonatal training resources;
    • Liaise with members of the African Neonatal Association with regard to designing and evaluating the neonatal training programmes;
    • Address any queries with logging in;
    • Support learners to navigate the platform;
    • Gain understanding of the needs of learning when accessing online learning resources; and
    • Update learners on existing or new AKU-led neonatal training programmes.

    Requirements

    • At least a Diploma in Health Sciences or any health-related field;
    • Experience in data collection for research studies or other programs;
    • Experience in online learning resource development;
    • Experience in mobile data collection tools;
    • Willing to work long hours. This may include weekends and/or public holidays;
    • Intermediate computer literacy; and
    • Good written and verbal skills in English and Kiswahili.

    ECD Technical Associate, Institute of Human Development

    Job Summary

    The Institute for Human Development at Aga Khan University is setting up a programme of work to provide technical support to local organizations working in Kenya, Uganda,  Lebanon and Jordan to support children in emergency or humanitarian settings.  This work programme will aim to strengthen access to and quality of early childhood development and education services in these settings. 

    We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Early Childhood Development and/or Early Childhood Education expert to join our team as a Technical Officer.   

    Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the development of the knowledge platform;
    • Contribute to the development of technical materials and briefs;
    • Through virtual and physical meetings provide technical support to implementing partners;
    • Support the project P.I in developing research proposals, acquiring ethics approval, and supervising data collection, management, analysis and dissemination;
    • In liaison with an M&E Consultant, facilitate the county teams develop and use an ECD M&E framework to ensure programme outcomes are realized;
    • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the various short courses to be offered by the programme;
    • In collaboration with the Communication Officer, develop policy briefs, fact sheets, and other communication products targeting decision-makers at the Counties;
    • Identify and document lessons learned and best practices for decision making by leadership; and
    • Document evidence of processes and activities through photography and videography, interviews, and testimonials in collaboration with the Communications Officer at IHD.  

    Requirements

    • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Development, Psychology, or other allied field. Bachelor’s degree in any of these field with at least 5 years of experience may be considered;
    • Experience coordinating or supporting a research project in early childhood development and education
    • Demonstrable experience in training and facilitation of ECD/ ECE courses
    • Strong background in mixed methods research
    • Strong oral and academic writing skills
    • Experience in community mobilization and partner engagement processes
    • Demonstrable experience in providing technical support and capacity-strengthening for Programme implementation teams.

    ECD Manager, Institute for Human Development

    Job Summary

    The Institute for Human Development at Aga Khan University is setting up a programme of work to provide technical support to local organizations working in Kenya, Uganda, Lebanon and Jordan to support children in emergency or humanitarian settings.  This work programme will aim to strengthen access to and quality of early childhood development and education services in these settings.  We seek a highly skilled and motivated professional to manage this work programme. They will coordinate all the activities by different internal and external parties. They will take the lead in coordinating all the activities, including training programmers, policy engagement, and technical support to implement and ensuring high-quality knowledge in action products. They will be the contact person for all those stakeholders interested in this programme.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage the delivery of high quality ECD short courses and workshops, including planning for trainings, managing participant applications, selection and communication;
    • Coordinate preparation of training materials, including course evaluations and translation of course content as needed;
    • Coordinate the development of new courses; support lead consultants to develop, test and rollout newly developed courses;
    • Coordinate the development and dissemination of up-to-date information and communication materials;
    • Identify and document lessons learned and best practices for decision making by leadership;
    • Coordinate the planning and delivery of webinars and online technical help chats in collaboration with the team and partners;
    • Provide initiative in maintaining positive, productive and ongoing communication within the programme’s large variety of internal and external stakeholders;
    • Participate in external meetings and contribute to enhancing the visibility of the programme among stakeholders;
    • In consultation with programme leads, identify all available opportunities to provide Technical Support e.g., regular meetings, planning and budgeting process, etc;
    • In liaison with an M&E Consultant, facilitate the implementing partners to develop and use an M&E framework to ensure ECD outcomes are realized;
    • Provide continuous technical support through progress review meetings or any other mechanism deemed appropriate;
    • In collaboration with the Communication Officer, develop Policy Briefs, Fact Sheets, and other communication products targeting decision-makers at the Counties;
    • Identify and document lessons learned and best practices for decision making by leadership
    • Document evidence of processes and activities through photography and videography, interviews, testimonials in collaboration with Communications officer at IHD; and
    • Coordinate and support the implementation team to deliver on their tasks to a high standard.

    Requirements

    • Master’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or other allied field with at least 4 years of relevant experience;
    • Extensive experience in implementing ECD programmes; 
    • Experience coordinating or supporting a multi-partner, multi-country project;
    • Demonstrable experience and skills to engage high level stakeholders from government, development partners, and donors among others;
    • Experience in community mobilization and partner engagement processes;
    • Experience coordinating or supporting a research project in early childhood development and education;
    • Demonstrable experience in training and facilitation of ECD/ ECE courses;
    • Strong oral and academic writing skills; and
    • Demonstrable experience in providing technical support and capacity-strengthening for programme implementation teams.
