    Consultant – Strategic Communication

    Purpose of consultancy

    To write, review, provide input to and/or edit specific priority communications materials and reports in support of UNITAID’s strategic communications activities. 

    Deliverables

    • Write-up of Unitaid 2022 Annual Report. 
      Expected by: Q2 2023.
    • Edit key organizational reports, including but not limited to the Annual Report and the Report of the Executive Director to the Executive Board.
      Expected by: Q2 and Q4 2023.
    • Draft articles, op-eds, statements and speeches.
    • Develop content for crisis communications.
    • Write and revise internal and external communications materials, including content for slides.

    Qualifications, experience, skills and languages.

    Educational Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • Advanced degree in the field of journalism, communications, social science, public health, development or similar field.

    Experience

    Essential:

    • Over 10 years of experience in drafting strategic communication documents targeting key external stakeholders, including governance bodies, donors, decision makers, political leaders, diverse partners. 
    • At least 5 years of experience in drafting corporate reports, advocacy documents, and similar communications products.
    • At least 5 years of experience in drafting articles, op-eds, online content and/or content for social media.
    • Demonstrated track record in developing strategic communications for senior leaders, crisis communications.
    • Experience distiling complex technical topics into relatable content for broad audiences, particularly in the area of public health.   
    • Experience analyzing and interpreting data and articulating related key findings in accessible communications products. 

    Skills/knowledge

    Essential:

    • Excellent written communication skills in English, with the ability to distil technical subjects in clear and accessible language for diverse target audiences.
    • Strong  understanding  of  global  health,  in  particular  in  the  areas  of  HIV,  tuberculosis, malaria,  reproductive, maternal,  newborn  and child health  and  global  health  pandemic response.
    • Excellent organizational skills and project management experience.
    • Demonstrated understanding of Unitaid’s strategy and business model.

    Consultant – Guidelines on Wasting (NFS/AHS)

    Purpose of consultancy

    To contribute to the development of evidence-informed comprehensive guidelines on wasting

    Deliverables

    Provide technical guidance in the development of a comprehensive guideline on the prevention and treatment of wasting which includes contributing to the following activities:

    • Deliverable 1: Preparing for and presenting at GDG meetings on diverse and complex topics.
    • Deliverable 2: Completing work requiring a high level of technical expertise through the following activities:
      • Detailed examination of systematic reviews (effectiveness, QES, and resource use) and primary papers included in the reviews.
      • Providing input on and/or completing systematic review analysis and GRADE assessments.
      • Producing prognostic review reports, including screening, prognostic data meta­ analysis, GRADE assessments, and writing.
      • Contributing to the preparation of technical notes for moderate and severe wasting, including doing calculations and completing meta-regression.
      • Using new software for recommendations and GRADE tables (MAGICapp), with untraditional questions that require troubleshooting and customization.

    Contribute to the development of operational tools on the prevention and treatment of wasting which includes contributing to the following activities:

    • Deliverable 1: Contribute to the development of the Manual on the management of wasting/nutritional oedema.
    • Deliverable 2: Contribute to the development of Policy briefs.

    Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

    Educational Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • First university degree in epidemiology, and nutrition or maternal and child health with a focus on undernutrition. 

    Desirable:

    • Advanced university degree in epidemiology, and nutrition or maternal and child health with a focus on undernutrition.

    Experience

    Essential:

    • 5 to 10 years of experience in public health nutrition, with focus on nutrition for maternal and child health.
    • Proven record in preparing technical documents and scientific publications.

    Desirable:

    • Experience in authoring systematic reviews of the interventions or development of evidence­ informed guidelines in nutrition.
    • Working experience in a UN agency or global NGO.

    Skills/Knowledge:

    Essential:

    • Computer literacy: word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. 
    • Knowledge of statistical analysis software, Review Manager and GRADE Profiler.

    Consultant - AMR Pipeline Analysis

    Purpose of consultancy

    To contribute to the development of the annual WHO antibacterial pipeline analysis.

    Deliverables

    • Deliverable 1: Perform a literature review of traditional and nontraditional antibacterials in the clinical pipeline from clinical trial databases [ClinicalTrials.gov , International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP) etc.] and PubMed. Perform a desk review to complement data, insights information through website search, poster abstracts. Support WHO in conducting targeted consultations for Russia, China and Japan.
      Expected by: April 2023
    • Deliverable 2: Perform an online data call for developers to generate primary preclinical data. Support WHO in conducting targeted consultation for Russia, China and Japan. 
      Expected by: May 2023
    • Deliverable 3: Facilitate organizing the Advisory Group meeting, including developing the agenda, compiling background materials, drafting presentations and drafting meeting notes. 
      Expected by: June 2023
    • Deliverable 4: Contribute to trend analysis on the bacterial pipeline data since the first (2017) WHO clinical pipeline review. Analyze yearly data on in order to identify trends in the evolution of the pipeline.  Perform statistical analyses, e.g., number of antibiotics that entered phase 1, number of products that progressed across different phases, number of products that were discontinued (and why).

    • Deliverable 5: Contribute to developing the antibacterial pipeline report, e.g., drafting, preparing data tables and figures, compiling inputs from WHO and clinical and preclinical R&D experts, and incorporating comments from the Advisory Group.  
      Expected by: August 2023
    • Deliverable 6: Contribute to developing the Bacterial Priority Pathogen List report, e.g., drafting, preparing data tables and figures, compiling inputs and incorporating comments from the Advisory Group. Liaise with designers to ensure technical proofreading and accuracy of technical reports and output.

    • Deliverable 7: Work on the clinical and preclinical database for the WHO R&D observatory using data collected for the antibacterial pipeline report. Compile data into an Excel file suitable for submission to the observatory.

    • Deliverable 8: Facilitate the publication process of the antibacterial pipeline report on the WHO website, including drafting a press release, developing social media tiles, website updates, etc. 
      Expected by: November 2023
    • Deliverable 9: Facilitate the dissemination activities for the antibacterial pipeline report, including drafting presentations for conferences and other events. 
      Expected by: January 2024
    • Deliverable 10: Facilitate the dissemination activities for the antibacterial pipeline report, including contributing to the development of a scientific publication. 
      Expected by: February 2024
    • Deliverable 11: Contribute to the kick-off of the first WHO antifungal pipeline analysis.  Draft Concept Note/scope of work to be undertaken to develop antifungal pipeline review and facilitate organizing the Advisory Group meeting to review and align.

    Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

    Educational Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • University degree in pharmacy, medicine, biomedical sciences, microbiology or another relevant area specific to antimicrobial resistance and infectious disease.

    Desirable:

    • Advanced degree (M.Sc., Ph.D.) in pharmacy, medicine, biomedical sciences, microbiology or another relevant area specific to antimicrobial resistance and infectious disease.

    Experience

    Essential:

    • At least 3 years of relevant experience in antimicrobial resistance and infectious disease.   

    Desirable:

    • Experience working for the UN in an international context.

    Skills/Knowledge:

    Essential:

    • Specific technical knowledge in AMR, infectious diseases research, clinical trial, drug development and scientific writing.
    • Good knowledge of research and development of treatments for infectious diseases.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team.
    • Ability to work under pressure with conflicting priorities.

    consultants - Learning Game Developer

    Purpose of consultancy

    The consultant will produce online games to support existing learning programmes within the WHO Academy. He/she will deliver gamified activities as per the established game design documents

    Deliverables

    Deliverable 1: Game development.

    The consultant will develop game activities for 8 learning programmes. The supporting learning games will not have the same size or complexity, depending on each programme.

    Objective 1: Develop impactful games to support learning experience.

    • Output 1.1: Produce Program games and playful interactions that support learning programmes. Effectively utilise various game development software, game engines, and other learning development tools to implement game experiences. These platforms may include: a proprietary game engine, Unity, Unreal, Evolve, Camtasia, Adapt Learning, Articulate Storyline, a Learning Content Management System, and other authoring software. The games may be part of the learning programme design (including on-site, digital, and learning lab courses), or they may be standalone games.
    • Output 1.2: Collect, technically adjust and integrate game assets from external providers.

    Objective 2: Record game assets in a structured location.

    • Output 2.1: Collaborate with designers, artists, developers, or audio professionals to gather any necessary assets as per the game design documents. Ensure that all art and audio assets are produced, collected, implemented, searchable and retrievable. Work with game designer to ensure that all script/ dialogue components, exposition/text needs, character profiles, and other design assets are completed and implemented.
    • Output 2.2: Organize all assets and/or asset needs in a database or spreadsheet. Communicate schedules and timelines for all necessary components of each game project. 

    Objective 3: Prototype, test, evaluate and improve Serious Educational Games (SEG) activities.

    • Output 3.1: Prototype, test, evaluate and improve SEG solutions based on feedback and data both pre- and post- program launch. 
    • Output 3.2: Augment efficiency of SEG solutions through continuous improvement loop, by measuring learner experience and by checking quality requirements. 

    Deliverable 2: Technical guidance.

    Objective 4: Advise on digital technologies for learning games.

    • Output 4.1: Deliver a report with direction and best practices on implementing the games into the learning programmes. There will be a variety of game types, including digital, analog, mixed reality games, playful activities, and simulations for medical, health, and patient needs. Provide strategic direction on platforms, authoring software, engines, and techniques to use.
    • Output 4.2: Coordinate workshops and training sessions on the value of gaming for other units across the WHO Academy. Work alongside a team of game designers and share best practices, challenges, and solutions. Co-deliver these workshops or sessions with game designers.

    Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

    Educational Qualifications:

    Essential:

    University degree in one of the following fields:

    • Technology, innovation or computerized systems.
    • Learning or instructional design.
    • Learning game development, advanced multimedia, 3D animation or video game production.

    Experience

    Essential:

    • At least 5 years of relevant experience in the development of games, including the use of game engines such as Unity or Unreal.
    • Experience in designing serious games.
    • At least 1 year of experience in programming interactive activities in Articulate Storyline and/or Adapt Learning.

    Desirable:

    • Experience in creating at least one game for serious or educational purposes.
    • At least 2 years of experience of iOS/Android game development.
    • At least 1 year of experience in coordinating game assets and/or using learning management systems.
    • Experience with augmented reality.

    Skills/Knowledge:

    Essential:

    • Knowledge of Game Development Sofware like h Unity or Unreal Game Engines.
    • Knowledge of Javascript, Java, C# scripting.
    • Knowledge of Articulate Storyline and/or Adapt Learning.
    • Knowledge of Photoshop, Canvas, Illustrator or similar software.
