Job Description
- Our client is a leading commercial bank in Kenya. They are seeking to hire a Managing Director, Investment Bank to lead the growth and strategic direction of the Bank's investment banking, capital raising, and brokerage business.
- The Managing Director will leverage their experience, network, and industry specialties to generate high-quality transactions for the Bank, while also overseeing the Brokerage business function. Job Responsibilities
Business Development and Deal Origination
- Conduct business development activities to identify, source, and introduce potential clients for M&A and capital raising assignments.
- Identify potential buyers and investors that might be interested in a client's business, and participate in contacting these entities on the client's behalf.
- Develop a network of contacts in relevant fields to help the Firm find new clients and expand relationships with potential investors.
Advisory and Transaction Execution
- Advise private equity and corporate clients on growth capital, recapitalizations, restructurings, leveraged buyouts, and acquisitions.
- Advise private equity and corporate clients on structuring and arranging financing for acquisitions, growth capital, recapitalizations, restructurings, and leveraged buyouts.
Private Debt and Equity Placement
- Build and manage a private debt and equity placement platform.
Brokerage Business Management
- Oversee the Bank's Brokerage business function.
- Maintain the Bank's brokerage business as a market leader in terms of market share, volumes, and profits, ensuring continuous growth.
People and Culture Leadership
- Supervise and mentor staff members.
- Train the team on transaction structuring/execution, lead generation, pitch development, and presentations to potential clients.
Other Requirements
Academic Qualifications and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- A relevant postgraduate qualification such as an MBA or Master's degree in Finance/Economics (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Relevant professional qualifications such as CFA, CPA/ACCA, or other recognized investment banking/capital markets qualifications will be an advantage.
Experience Requirements
- At least 12 years of professional experience in investment banking, within an investment banking or fund management environment, or a strategy consulting firm.
- At least 5 years' experience in a senior leadership position with significant commercial and/or P&L responsibility.
- Proven track record of originating, structuring, negotiating, and closing significant transactions — particularly equity or debt investments, M&A, transactions involving private equity funds, and joint venture arrangements.
- Ability to source and contact potential clients, with the ability to build (or utilize an existing) extensive network of potential clients and referrals.

Job Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Lead financial strategy aligned to the Hospital's strategic plan.
- Advise the CEO and Board on strategic, commercial and investment decisions.
- Lead capital allocation, mergers, partnerships, expansion and major investments.
Strategic Decision Support
- Provide forward-looking financial analysis and scenario planning.
- Develop business cases for strategic initiatives.
- Support Board decision-making through predictive analytics and commercial insights.
- Identify emerging risks and opportunities.
- Maintain productive relationships with the Board, regulators, auditors, banks, insurers, development partners and key external stakeholders.
Enterprise Performance Management
- Lead Hospital-wide enterprise performance management framework.

- Own finance KPIs including month-end close cycle, cash conversion cycle, forecast accuracy, tax compliance, working capital, audit issue closure and elimination of material control deficiencies.

- Lead budgeting, forecasting, IFRS reporting and Board reporting.
- Oversee multi-entity consolidation for the Hospital, Nursing College and Heart to Heart Foundation.
- Ensure effective donor and grant accounting and robust internal controls.
Treasury, Capital and Commercial Finance
- Manage treasury, liquidity, banking, borrowing and investments.
- Lead capital project evaluation and financing.
- Drive costing, pricing and profitability by service line and department.
- Lead revenue cycle management, SHA/private payer relationships and receivables optimization.
Technology Leadership & Digital Transformation
- Provide executive leadership for enterprise technology strategy where ICT reports to the CFO.
- Champion ERP optimization, Business Intelligence, enterprise analytics and AI-enabled decision support.
- Drive integration of clinical, financial and operational information systems.
- Strengthen cybersecurity governance, technology risk management and digital resilience.
- Evaluate technology investments and promote innovation.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Lead enterprise financial governance, statutory compliance, risk management and fraud prevention.
- Support the Audit Committee and oversee remediation of audit findings.
- Oversee the Group's tax risk management.

- Develop a sustainable, high-performing finance organization.

Other Requirements
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or Economics.
- MBA or Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field.
- CPA(K) with current ICPAK membership. ACCA, ACA, CIMA and/or CFA are preferred.
- Minimum 15 years' progressive finance leadership with at least 7 years in executive leadership.
- Healthcare finance, digital transformation, treasury and Board reporting experience strongly preferred.
