    Aviation Plating Shop Technician – Production (Technical Workshop)

    Purpose

    To carry out electroplating and surface treatment processes on aircraft components in accordance with approved maintenance procedures and aviation industry standards, ensuring airworthiness, corrosion protection, and dimensional restoration.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform electroplating operations (e.g., cadmium, nickel, chrome) on metallic components per engineering requirements and maintenance manual.
    • Prepare components by cleaning, degreasing, masking, and surface finishing prior to plating.
    • Operate and maintain plating tanks, rectifiers, and solution chemistry, ensuring correct voltage, current, and immersion times.
    • Monitor and adjust bath composition and parameters (pH, temperature, concentration) to maintain plating quality.
    • Conduct anodizing, passivation, chemical etching, and conversion coating (e.g., Alodine) as required.
    • Interpret technical drawings, repair schemes, and specifications (e.g., AMS, MIL, and OEM standards).
    • Record all work in job cards, plating logs, and component history documents in line with regulatory requirements.
    • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections before and after plating using gauges, micrometers, or NDT (if qualified).
    • Adhere to safety, health, and environmental protocols, especially in handling and disposing of hazardous chemicals.
    • Assist in bath maintenance, waste treatment, and periodic chemical testing (e.g., titration, specific gravity).

    Skills

    Qualifications

    • Diploma in Electroplating, Applied Sciences, Aircraft Maintenance, or Mechanical Engineering.
    • Minimum 3 years in aerospace plating or surface finishing environment.
    • Aircraft maintenance license (advantageous but not mandatory); relevant CNC/machining certifications.
    • NASF (National Association for Surface Finishing) training (e.g., CEF – Certified Electroplater Finisher)
    • Safety or HazMat handling certifications
    • Awareness of EASA, or military aviation plating requirements
    • Familiarity with specifications like AMS 2404 (Nickel Plating), AMS 2401 (Cadmium), MIL-DTL-5541 (Conversion Coating), etc.
    • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO/IEC17025 / AS9100 quality systems
    • Minimum 3 years in an aviation or aerospace machine shop environment.

    Maintenance Machinist – Production Technical Workshop

    Purpose

    To perform precision machining, fabrication, and repair of aircraft components in accordance with aviation standards and engineering specifications, supporting aircraft safety, airworthiness, and operational readiness.

    Responsibilities

    • Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC equipment to manufacture, modify, or restore aircraft components.
    • Interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and aviation specifications (e.g., ATA 100, EASA guidelines).
    • Conduct dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges).
    • Perform surface finishing processes such as honing, deburring, polishing, and thread repair.
    • Ensure compliance with aviation maintenance documentation, repair schemes, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Collaborate with engineers and inspectors to validate machining tolerances and identify rework requirements.
    •  Maintain strict adherence to safety, quality assurance, and environmental protocols in the workshop.
    • Record and document work performed in line with regulatory and organizational standards (e.g., work orders, job cards).
    •  Assist in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for failed or rejected components.
    •  Support continuous improvement initiatives and machine shop capability upgrades.

    • Trade test training or certification in industrial Training
    • Proficiency in machining techniques (manual and CNC)
    • Strong understanding of metallurgy and aviation materials
    • Familiarity with aviation component standards (e.g., AS9100, Part 145,CMM, SPM, Sbs and ADs)
    • Minimum 3 years in an aviation or aerospace machine shop environment.

    Maintenance Technician – Production (Plant and Equipment Workshop)

    Purpose

    • Carry out all inspection, repair, modification, rectification, replacement, overhaul and testing tasks on all Aircraft support equipment specific to entire KQ and third party aircraft fleet.
    • Carry out all service bulletins on equipment, machinery and tooling in accordance with OEM specifications.
    • Carry out fabrication of required equipment, tools and piece parts in accordance with OEM specifications, and engineering orders.
    • Carry out all inspection repair and overhaul of all machinery in technical department workshops and hangars.

    Responsibilities

    • Carry out maintenance, repair, major overhaul, modification and testing tasks on aircraft support equipment components, aircraft tools for optimal TAT and at minimum resource and material usage to ensure continuous availability of serviceable equipment machinery and tooling to both internal and external customers.
    • Inspection of aircraft support equipment, workshops machinery and tooling to asses defects as per the appropriate CMM.
    • Ensure proper documentation has been done & signed for in order to maintain correct & up to date component history.
    • Nil fault /failure rate on Equipment/or machinery released after maintenance repair or overhaul.
    • Adhere to the company safety, health & environment policy to maintain company safety records, report incidents/accident occurrences as per company procedures to maintain our safety standards, carry out 5s audits, first aid & fire marshaling drills.
    • Carry out security checks as per engineering security document annex8 to maintain our security standards.

    Skills

    • Basic Knowledge of Aviation Legislation/Regulations
    • Knowledge of Industrial Safety Standards.
    • Be able to interpret and use appropriate maintenance data.
    • Has used the appropriate equipment, technology and/or IT systems to complete day to day work.
    • Has knowledge of material specifications – MSDS

    Qualifications

    • Completed a recognized apprentice or
    • Holds relevant KNEC Engineering Diploma or equivalent from a recognized institution.
    • Computer Literacy.
    • Competence maintenance.
    • Demonstrated competence on at least one craft based skill e.g. welding and fabrication, carpentry or electrical wiring. 
    • 3 years component maintenance experience or 2 years apprentice program.

    Maintenance Technician – Production (Avionics/Mechanical Workshop)

    Purpose

    Carry out all: Pre inspection, disassembly cleaning, inspection, repair, modification, rectification, replacement, overhaul and testing tasks on Aircraft components for all KQ fleet third party operators and perform certification within his/ her dual scope of approval in accordance with KCAA company regulations at an optimized cost for the business whilst upholding high maintenance standards to maintain schedule integrity.

    Responsibilities

    • Carry out Pre inspection, disassembly, cleaning, inspection, repair, modification, rectification, replacement, overhaul and testing tasks on aircraft components, aircraft tools & certify within the workshop approval system for optimal TAT to ensure continuous availability of serviceable components under supervision.
    • Pre inspection and inspection of aircraft components to asses defects as per the appropriate CMM, certify his or other work (subject to applicable approvals) daily audit on tools, equipment &  machines to ensure their serviceability, ensure proper documentation has been done & signed for in order to maintain correct & up to date component history.
    • Adhere to the company safety, health & environment policy to maintain company safety records, report incidents/accident occurrences as per company procedures to maintain our safety standards, carry out 5s audits, first aid & fire marshaling drills. He/she should be aware of the safety and quality findings raised and ensure timely implementation of the immediate corrective action.
    • Carry out security checks as per engineering security document annex 8 to maintain our security standards.
    • Be able to interpret the hub critical list, to identify priority items and ensure timely delivery of components, to support the business.
    • Implement SBs and be aware of changes effected in the CMM as cascaded through development engineering.

    Skills

    • Basic Knowledge of Aviation Legislation/Regulations
    • Knowledge of Industrial Safety Standards
    • Has used the appropriate equipment, technology and/or IT systems to complete day to day work

    Aircraft Workshops Technical Assistant

    Purpose

    Assist Technicians Perform Limited Routine tasks under supervision in accordance with regulatory and company procedures.

    Responsibilities

    • Carry out components, parts and equipment cleaning as to the instructions of supervisory staff.
    • To assist Technicians to perform their duties in accordance with Maintenance Manuals
    • Ensure compliance with airworthiness requirement when handling or transporting aircraft
    • components and parts from place to place within the shop.
    • Ensure that care is taken in handling spares, tools and equipment to prevent personnel injury or damage to company property.
    • Use tools correctly in the designed manner to keep them in good operating condition.
    • Take care in drawing and returning tools to ensure their availability to others.
    •  Maintain good housekeeping practices to ensure that the work environment is hazard free, safe and pleasant.
    • Clean workbenches, tools and equipment on completion of work as per the instructions of supervisory staff.
    • To assist Technical Materials staff loading/unloading and receiving aircraft spares tools and equipment.
    • Maintain Service and appearance of Vehicles and Equipment in a good condition to meet set standard
    • Adheres to published Health and Safety requirements defined in published manuals and other publications.
    • Undertaking such other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Technician or Engineer.

    • C Plain in KCSE - With C in English, Math’s, Physics and chemistry.
    • National trade test Certificate or equivalent from a recognized institution is added advantage.

    • Previous Airline/Motor vehicle maintenance experience would be an added advantage.

    Aviation Calibration Technician

    Purpose

    To carry out assigned repair and replacement tasks on aircraft components in accordance with regulatory and company procedures in order to uphold high safety standards and scheduling integrity.

    Responsibilities

    • Proficiency in calibration of aviation instruments (mechanical, electrical, pressure, torque, temperature).
    • Working knowledge of Metrology principles, and traceability to national/international standards (e.g., ISO 17025).
    • Strong attention to detail, precision, and record-keeping discipline.
    • Familiarity with reference standards, calibration masters, and traceability chains.
    • Understanding of measurement principles and Measurement uncertainty.
    • Knowledge of calibration tolerances, acceptance criteria, and correction factors.
    • Label and control calibrated tools in line with tool control policies.
    • Identify tools/instruments that are out-of-tolerance or require repair/replacement.
    • Familiarity with ERP systems or calibration management software.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, calibration procedures, and engineering specs.

    • Understanding of aviation maintenance regulations (e.g., ISO, EASA, MIL-SPEC)
