Job Overview
To manage the overall operations of the Inventory and Materials Management function for raw materials, packaging materials, and engineering items across Beverage, Plastics, Noodles, and shared utilities. Ensure uninterrupted material availability, maintain optimal stock levels, implement efficient processes, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to support production, quality, and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory and Stock Management
- Maintain minimum inventory levels for all raw and packaging materials to avoid stock-outs.
- Conduct daily tracking, weekly stock verification, monthly physical stock takes and reconcile any variances.
- Maintain accurate bin card records and ensure alignment with physical stock during audits.
- Ensure proper storage, hygiene, and labelling of materials
Material Movement and Production Support
- Manage timely issuance and receipt of materials to/from production as per standard procedures.
- Record all material movements accurately in ERP systems.
- Alert production teams about materials nearing expiry or at risk.
Procurement and Vendor Coordination
- Raise purchase requisitions timely and follow up with procurement teams and vendors for on-time delivery.
- Process materials rejected due to quality issues and coordinate replacements with vendors.
- Conduct quarterly key vendor audits and evaluate new vendors per company standards.
- Coordinate with finance and procurement for timely payments and maintain weekly status reports.
Waste, Scrap, and Process Management
- Manage daily process wastage, ensure proper segregation, recording, and disposal of scrap per policy.
- Implement Lean and Kaizen initiatives to optimize processes and reduce non-value-adding activities.
Reporting, Compliance, and Miscellaneous Tasks
- Prepare weekly stock reports, monthly audits, and production planning reports for management.
- Participate in project-based teams and miscellaneous tasks as assigned by management.
- Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures, quality checks, and documentation requirements
Requirements
Education:
- Diploma or Degree in Material Management, Supply Chain Management, or Procurement.
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years in manufacturing, handling over 300 materials including raw materials and packaging materials.
- Proven experience in a lead role managing a materials store or inbound store, overseeing material receipt, issuance, and stock control.
- Strong experience in inventory management, procurement follow-ups, and vendor management.
- Experience with ERP systems (such as SAP) and preparing reports.
- Experience in audits, process improvement (Lean/Kaizen), and waste or scrap management.
- Preferred industries: Food & Beverage, FMCG, or related manufacturing sectors where materials management and inbound store operations are critical.
Skills and Competencies:

- Strong communication and coordination with production, quality assurance, procurement, and vendors.

About this position:
Our client is one of East Africa’s leading FMCG companies, operating in edible oils & fats, food, beverages, home care and personal care products. The Deputy Lead Warehouse is responsible for supporting the Lead Warehouse in managing day-to-day warehouse operations within a food and beverage manufacturing environment. The role ensures accurate stock control, efficient goods movement, compliance with FIFO/FEFO principles, cleanliness (Gemba), and effective supervision of warehouse clerks to maintain high operational and food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Lead Warehouse in daily warehouse operations.
- Manage inventory for raw materials, packaging, and finished goods.
- Ensure accurate goods receiving, storage, and dispatch.
- Conduct regular stock takes and cycle counts; report variances.
- Ensure FIFO / FEFO compliance during storage and dispatch.
- Prevent expired, damaged, or obsolete stock in the warehouse.
- Ensure warehouse Gemba is clean, organized, and compliant with 5S standards.
- Supervise and allocate work to warehouse clerks.
- Ensure proper documentation for goods in and out.
- Enforce food safety, hygiene, and safety procedures.
- Prepare basic warehouse and inventory reports.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Stores, or related field.
- 5-7 years’ warehouse experience, preferably in food & beverage manufacturing.
- 3+ year supervisory experience in warehouse operations.
- Strong knowledge of inventory control, FIFO/FEFO, stock management and warehouse best practices.
- Hands on experience with goods receiving, dispatch, and stock reconciliation.
- Ability to manage and supervise warehouse staff.
- Proficient in warehouse documentation and basic computer systems (ERP / Excel/ SAP).
- Good understanding of food safety, hygiene standards and storage standards.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity and accountability.
- Knowledge of local regulatory and food safety requirements in Kenya is an advantage.
