    French Medical Interpreter & Care Navigation Ambassador

    Job Purpose

    To provide professional French - English interpretation and translation services while facilitating seamless patient navigation and coordination of care for Francophone patients and their families, ensuring effective communication, patient satisfaction, and a positive healthcare experience. The role combines clinical expertise, patient advocacy, interpretation services, care coordination, and stakeholder engagement to support high-quality, patient-centered care.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Communication Support - Interpretation and translation for international patients
    • Provide accurate French English interpretation/translation during consultations, procedures, ward rounds, family meetings, discharge discussions, and patient education sessions.
    • Ensure patients and families fully understand diagnoses, treatment plans, consent processes, medication instructions, and hospital policies.
    • Bridge communication gaps between patients, families, and healthcare providers to support informed decision-making.
    • Patient Navigation and Care Coordination
    • Act as the primary point of contact for French-speaking patients from admission through discharge and follow-up.
    • Coordinate patient access to hospital services
    • Facilitate smooth patient flow and timely access to services by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
    • Patient Experience and Advocacy 
    • Partner closely with clinical teams, patient services, finance, pharmacy, diagnostics, and other departments to ensure coordinated and efficient service delivery.
    • Support international patient services, including assistance with accommodation, travel coordination, and insurance-related inquiries when required.
    • Overall Support for International Patients
    • Serve as the first point of contact for these target patients & families.

    Qualifications, skills and experience required

    • Diploma in Nursing
    • Fluency in French (spoken& written) is mandatory
    • Fluency in English (spoken& written) is mandatory
    • Proficiency in an additional foreign language will be an added advantage
    • Proficiency in Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) is required

    Relevant Experience

    • Minimum 2 years in patient care setting
    • Experience in patient navigation and
    • Experience in patient Customer Service roles in hospitality or healthcare industry.

    Technician Assistant (Healthcare Focus)-Fixed Term, CIME-EA

    Job Purpose/Summary

    To ensure that simulation-based learning can take place by setting up spaces and maintaining physical equipment (simulators, AV, etc.) and to work with administrative and educational personnel to promote innovative technical solutions for the LMIC context, with a particular focus on healthcare assistants.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities 

    • Maintain equipment.
    • Maintain an inventory of equipment.
    • Set up and take down clinical spaces.
    • Assist visitors, students, faculty, and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
    • Create psychological safety for learners.
    • Manage phone calls, emails, and correspondence promptly and efficiently.
    • Deal with queries from the public and customers in line with the AKU’s communication guidelines.
    • Maintain a filing system of records, equipment and activities, and retrieve information as and when required.
    • Provide periodic reports as and when required.
    • Collaborate with the administrative and educational team to ensure spaces are set up.
    • Collaborate with educators to prepare materials and resources for simulation sessions.
    • Participate in simulation scenarios and assist in coordination of educational programs and workshops.
    • Provide healthcare assistant insight into the setup of the simulation centre.
    • Complete any other duties assigned by supervisor.

    Relevant Experience and Qualifications 

    • KCSE with a minimum grade C or equivalent.
    • Experience as a patient attendant.
    • Experience in the homecare industry.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
    • Able to deal with conflict and de-escalate situations.
    • Attention to detail, focused on providing a high quality experience to visitors and learners.
    • Able to speak up if unsure or unhappy and ask for help if required.
    • A team player who supports other team members.
    • Invested in continuous improvement of self, others and the Centre.
    • Able to reflect and show change in behaviour based on reflection and feedback.
    • Excellent self-presentation.
    • Ability to multitask.
