    Nursing Officers

    No of Positions: 4

    Reporting to:  Nursing Officer In-Charge

    Duration:   Short Term Contract of Three (3) Months with possibility of extension

    PURPOSE:

    The overall objective is to provide a high standard of client care to both outpatients and inpatients, in accordance with clinical guidelines, policies, procedure, quality standards and guidelines for nursing professional practice.

    Key Responsibilities

    • The Nursing Officer shall work in specific ward/clinic assigned to and would therefore work
    • as both supervisor and team leader of the refugee staff.
    • Prepare for and assist the doctors during the rounds whenever required.
    • Ensure that all required observations, prescribed treatment and procedures are properly
    • carried out and documented on patient’s charts.
    • Refer to the doctor in charge or to the doctor/CO on call relevant information such as
    • patient’s status and laboratory results, which would assist in proper clinical management.
    • Arrange and submit weekly clinic/ward work schedule and plan daily duties and
    • responsibilities for each refugee staff.
    • Participate in camp health surveys/campaigns.
    • Conduct regular training session for refugee staff on basic nursing care/management of
    • various ward/clinic cases and charting.
    • Give health education to patients and clients
    • Compile and submit monthly reports.
    • Monitor and supervise proper usage of supplies.
    • Maintain equipment in good condition and submit regular inventory report of the same.
    • Maintain drug registers and drug consumption within the ward level.
    • Ensure that all admissions, discharges, transfers and deaths are properly recorded as they
    • occur.
    • Taking and recording of vital signs and proper documentation of all nursing procedures
    • Ensure the clinic/ward is cleaned to the expected standards.
    • Perform coverage and be on-call as required.

     

     

    Minimum Qualifications 

    • Over two (2) years’ experience.
    • Registered nurse with a Diploma in Nursing from KMTC or other recognized nurse-training institute.
    • Valid and current registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.

    Key Competencies 

    • At least 2 years working in a busy hospital set-up.
    • Strong leadership, team building, conflict resolution and ability to deliver the Society’s strategic objectives.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, email and utilization of the internet.
    • Should be a team player and culturally sensitive.
    • Strong communication skills: oral, written and presentation skills.

    Medical Officers - Dadaab

    No of Positions: 4

    Reporting to:  Medical Officer In-Charge

    Job Location:  Dadaab

    Duration:  Short Term Contract of Three (3) Months with possibility of extension

    PURPOSE:

    Responsible to the Medical Officer In Charge, the medical officer is a General Practitioner, appropriately qualified and registered medical professional with knowledge and skills to provide personal, family and community orientated comprehensive primary and secondary health care services to individuals. MO is responsible for providing patient-centred, culturally appropriate, and individual holistic care to a defined population.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Review program activities and priorities on a regular basis updating the Medical Officer – In Charge on gaps and/or provide recommendations on how to improve quality of services
    • Attend to urgent medical services including resuscitation, stabilization and assessment and diagnosis, treatment and referral as necessary
    • Assess the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history taking, examination and investigation.
    • Recommending and, where appropriate, undertaking treatment options and carrying out/referring for appropriate interventions and procedures, including but not limited to prescribing, minor surgery and other general practice procedures, counseling, psychological interventions, advising and education.
    • Provide timely clinical and culturally appropriate health services through appropriate evidence based screening, risk assessment and early detection of illness, disease and disability.
    • Working with public health providers in the prevention and control of communicable diseases for individuals and families.
    • Provide ongoing care and support for people with chronic and terminal conditions to reduce deterioration, increase independence and reduce suffering linking, where relevant, with appropriate service providers.
    • Comply with established health and safety policies with regard to handling of instruments, storage of drugs and disposal of sharps and other potentially dangerous equipment and substances.
    • Liaise with nursing staff regularly to check on patient progress, or more frequently if their condition necessitates.
    • To see patients at the request of nurses in charge and carry out examinations of patients.
    • Supervise the daily clinical management of all patients in conjunction with the nurse team leaders and attend all post-operative patients on day of operation and every day following.
    • Conduct daily ward rounds in the hospital, and regular reviews of in-patients where necessary.
    • Ensure patient management is in line with the set MOH, WHO and NACADA guidelines and protocols.
    • Conduct special outpatient clinics in the hospital on the allocated days every week i.e. SOPC, GOPC, HRC, POPC, and MOPC.
    • Attend to all medical legal cases, including filling of P3 forms and attend court sessions as required.
    • Attend to sexual assault survivors on a timely basis in the GBV Support Centre.
    • Monitor closely the morbidity and mortality trends together with all the other health indicators in the HMIS to ensure that prompt actions are taken.

     

    Minimum Qualifications 

    • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from a recognized college/University
    • At least two (2) years’ experience of working in a busy hospital
    • Valid practising licence with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board

    Key Competencies 

    • Strong communication skills: oral, written and presentation skills.
    • Should be a team player and culturally sensitive
    • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and utilization of the internet.
    • Excellent report writing skills.
    • Strong leadership, team building, conflict resolution and ability to deliver the Society’s  strategic objectives.
    • Previous work experience in a rehabilitation centre setting is an added advantage
    • Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations.
    • Ability to maintains high level of confidentiality, remain open to new ideas and experiment with improved systems and proven methods
    • Ability to make consultative decisions, facilitate participative decision-making process and explain reasoning for decisions
    • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, email and utilization of the internet.

    Clinical Officer - Dadaab

    PURPOSE:

    The Clinical Officer's main objective is to provide quality health care both outpatient and in-patient units through patient clerkship, diagnosis and treatment of diseases based on clinical signs and symptoms and available laboratory findings.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Clinical assessment and prescription of treatment to all patients according to the MOH/WHO guidelines.
    • To ensure that all patient registers and files are accurately filled and updated regularly.
    • Maintain high standard confidentiality to all patients and treat all patients with respect and dignity.
    • Conduct minor surgical procedures at the work station.
    • Take a detailed patient history and updating treatment in the patient files for all patients being admitted in the wards
    • Conduct and attend to ward rounds.
    • Attend to medical emergencies at the hospital and the health posts.
    • Attend and participate in weekly CMEs organised and conducted at the hospital boardroom.
    • To supervise the medical assistants stationed at the health posts.
    • Conduct on job trainings to all auxillary staff and incentive workers attached to that work station on a regular basis.
    • Maintaining high quality of care provided to all patients.
    • Identify the very sick and give treatment based on priority basis.
    • Compile and submit reports on time.
    • Ensure that universal precautions and infection prevention guidelines are adhered to.
    • Attend to any other duty assigned by the supervisor.

    Minimum Qualifications 

    • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution
    • Registered with Clinical Officers’ Council of Kenya and possess a valid practicing license
    • Minimum of 2 years working experience preferably in a refugee setting.
