    Senior Learning Designer

    The Opportunity:

    Arifu is looking to hire a highly motivated Senior Learning Designer to research, write and improve Arifu’s expanding educational content offering and help us realize a bold vision of placing a smart personal learning assistant in everyone's hands across Africa and globally.
    Arifu reached over 1m users in 2019 with a rapidly growing active user base. The Senior Learning Designer will be an essential member of the Learning team in developing impactful content that drives Arifu’s value-addition to our key stakeholders.
    The Learning Team at Arifu designs content in partnership with industry experts and local and multilateral institutions and works closely with Arifu research and data teams to generate insights from field research, rapid A/B testing and learner data to drive the relevance and impact of Arifu’s content on end learners. The Senior Learning Designer will be responsible for leading other Learning Designers in the research, writing and improving Arifu’s expanding educational content offering.
    This is a full-time position with equity participation based at Arifu’s headquarters in Nairobi.

     

    Job Description:

    The Senior Learning Designer will report directly to the Chief Learning Officer and be responsible for:

    • Leading project scoping sessions with partners and technical experts;
    • Assuring a high level of quality in both your own work and the work of designers you are leading;
    • Conducting and overseeing other designers in the following activities:
      • Performing field research to gather insights on learner biases, mental models and cultural norms to inform content design;
      • Contributing to the design and structure of new programs including setting learning outcomes, brainstorming treatment design, writing content and informing program evaluation;
      • Communicating with partners to resolve content-related issues;
      • Maintaining strong project management capabilities with planning, communicating, documenting, and tracking milestones and results;
      • Contributing to team strategy for prioritizing new partnerships and content to add to the Arifu platform;
    • Assessing when work is client-ready for both your own work and the work of designers you are leading;
    • Participating in regular check-ins with the Chief Learning Officer to give updates on all projects you are leading;
    • Participating in community events, trade meetups, and industry workshops in Nairobi and globally.

    Qualifications:

    A desire to impact lives, the ability to make a long term commitment to your team and the product, and exceptional problem-solving abilities are all essential prerequisites on the Arifu team. For this role, we’re also looking for someone with the following:

    • A minimum of 5 years work experience in content design, preferably in East Africa;
    • Masters or Undergraduate degree with relevant experience in education or a related field;
    • Proven leadership skills, preferably with a minimum of 1-2 years of job experience leading others in research and content design;
    • Strong willingness and motivation to help develop the skill and abilities of other designers on the team;
    • Strong written communication and excellent attention to detail while taking large bodies of information and transforming them into short, effective trainings;
    • Fluency in English required and fluency in Swahili preferred;
    • Experience conducting and leading field research and willingness to spend long days in the sun, talking to people about their lives and observing them interacting with our products;
    • Resourceful and proactive when generating solutions to the problems that stand in your way;
    • Ability to enjoy (and survive) the chaos of a high-growth startup.

    Finance and Accounting Associate

    Job Description:

    The Finance and Accounting Associate will report directly to the Senior Finance Manager and be responsible for:

    • Tracking sales, expenses, and profits and maintaining accurate ledgers with Quickbooks;
    • Monitoring accounts payable and receivable, following up with clients and services providers as needed;
    • Providing project-level accounting support for all assigned projects including assigning resources, entering budgets for assigned projects, and meeting with project managers for new projects to ensure that the budget is
    • set up correctly and reports are displayed correctly;
    • Producing quarterly and annual financial statements: balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement;
    • Maintaining company asset register.
    • Act as the company bank liaison and other financial partners
    • Manage company petty cash float
    • Generating and maintaining pro forma financial statements and projections;
    • Working closely with the product team to build and maintain Arifu’s online partner account functionality for accurately capturing project cost and client budget;
    • Provide management with financial analysis-based recommendations to inform cost reduction and supportdecisions making by leadership team;
    • Ensure full compliance with KRA and other government bodies;
    • Carry out annual audit and support in compliance of other subsidiaries;
    • Maintaining monthly project cost tracker and provide monthly reports on costs movements and projections;
    • Support in monthly software and content valuation by collecting and documenting relevant information;.

    Qualifications:

    For this role, we’re looking for someone who meets the following criteria:

    • 5+ years of professional experience in finance and accounting;
    • Degree in Accounting or Finance related field required. CPA section 4 w;
    • Passion to use your skills to bring quality products and services to underserved communities;
    • Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles and ability to generate financial statements;
    • Strong analytical skills and ability to generate complex and actionable financial models in Excel;
    • Humility to know what you can improve on, openness to give and receive constructive feedback, and the drive
    • to invest in continued learning as you pursue mastery;
    • Resourceful and proactive when generating solutions to the problems that stand in your way;
    • Commitment to consistently deliver high quality work on time;
    • Ability to handle the chaos of a fast-paced startup work culture and a willingness to take on additional tasks and support the work of other team members as necessary to achieve collective goals.

    Information Security Specialist

    Job Description:

    Working closely across teams at Arifu, theISS will:

    • Draft security policies and guidelines: Work with CTO & COO to update relevant documentation related to GDPR, Data Access Policies and Information Security Policies.
    • Serve as a security expert and conduct training when needed.
    • Design and implement safety measures, early warning systems and data recovery plans.
    • Analyze IT specifications to assess security risks.
    • Analyze existing security systems and make recommendations for changes or improvements.
    • Communicate the system status and keep users informed of downtime or changes to the production system.
    • Secure networks through firewalls/VPNs, password protection and other systems, including inspect hardware for vulnerable points of access.
    • Install, configure and upgrade security software (e.g. antivirus programs) and remote asset management software.
    • Upgrade systems regularly to remain secure Arifu’s digital assets; provide system updates and write code fixes application level vulnerabilities using security libraries (e.g. Sqreen).
    • Monitor network activity to identify issues early, provide early warning of abnormalities or problems and escalate them to CTO.
    • Act on privacy breaches and malware threats, in the event that a security breach does occur, prepare reports and action plans to prevent future breaches.
    • Organize and conduct tests and “ethical hacks” of the existing security architecture,

    Basic Qualifications:

    The ISS should have the following:

    • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field; professional certification (e.g. CompTIA Security+, CISSP, AWS CSS) is a plus.
    • Proven experience as a ICS Specialist (5+ years), knowledge of current security risks and protocols (deep working knowledge of AWS security tools).
    • Willingness to work through the problem (any time of the day) in the event of a security breach or other emergency, keeping the CTO informed and seeking decision/approvals.
    • Ability to work under supervision, as well as the ability to take independent initiative when needed during crisis situations.
    • Expertise in patch management, firewalls and intrusion detection/prevention systems (e.g.TippingPoint, AWS IDS/IPS).
    • Programming skills in 2 languages will be preferred (e.g. knowledge of Python or Java or C++languages).
    • Familiarity with security frameworks (e.g. NIST Cybersecurity framework), public key infrastructure (PKI) and cryptographic protocols (e.g. SSL / TLS).
    • An analytical mind with excellent problem-solving ability.
    • Outstanding communication, organization and decision-making skills.

    Project Accountant

    Job Description:

    The Project Accountant will report directly to the Senior Finance Manager and be responsible for:

    • Preparing liquidation reports for all closed projects to show profit/loss per project;

    Qualifications:

    • 3+ years of professional experience in finance and accounting;
    • Degree in Accounting or Finance related field required. CPA or ACCA will be an added advantage;
