    Field Agronomist

    Role Purpose

    Delivering innovation by delivering high quality & usable data: To conduct and or oversee field trials in a safe and efficient manner, providing quality data for use in biodossiers, project decision making and transfer of knowledge to Market Development and other Commercial functions (e.g., Sales & Customer Marketing).

    Key Responsibilities and Tasks

    • To carry out allocated trials, safely, efficiently and to a high standard in order to provide useable data for the process of registration of new and existing active substances/products and determine the validity of proof-of-concept projects.
    • In collaboration with Agronomic Solutions, create protocols (for relevant disciplines) and provide in season support for peers within the Field Agronomist team.
    • Actively provide knowledge and observations from field trials on project developments to Agronomic Solutions Manager by updating SCOUT continuously throughout the season.
    • To be responsible for the maintenance of site equipment to ensure accurate and safe application of chemicals to trial sites and maintain storage facility in a professional manner.
    • Accurate and prompt use of the trial database (in most cases SCOUT), ensuring data is available within two weeks for Agronomic Solutions and decision making in central functions in order to develop new products as quickly as possible.
    • To actively participate in training, motivation and safety of temporary employees and all other commercial functions (e.g. Sales, Customer Marketing & Market Development).
    • To adhere to all applicable safety regulations and procedures to ensure continued compliance with in-country Health & Safety regulations.

    Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

    • University Degree or equivalent in Agriculture, Horticulture or Biological/Data Sciences; with focus on crop protection 
    • Minimum of 5 years working experience in a similar role.
    • Knowledge of crops and practical cropping systems as well as experience with field trials and field-testing methodology, including digital.
    • Excellent human relationship and social competence (teamwork skills) required.
    • Good networking and communications skills.
    • Good organization and planning skills to manage complexity.
    • Flexible and reliable person.
    • Experience in data science in addition to high competence with IT applications including Microsoft Office and database systems.
    • Proficient in English language - written and spoken 
    • Relevant competence certificates for spraying (country specific)
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Good networking and communications skills

    Market Development Regional Lead

    Role purpose

    The Market Development Regional Lead utilizes their expertise in applied field research and agronomic sciences to provide technical leadership to a select geography and crop. This includes execution of the field-testing program which utilizes Research and Development protocols to support key business drivers for all facets of the SSA region -including Seed, Trait, Biologicals, Crop Protection, and Climate digital tools.

    Representing Market Development in the development of the GTM strategy for SSA with clear alignment on the objectives and responsible for driving the implementation within the MD and Sales teams across SSA.

    Key responsibilities and tasks

    • Execution and localization of the MD testing program and trials under farmer conditions to validate the technologies and solutions
    • Develop and validate field protocols including treatments, site assignments and data to be collected along with ensuring all materials (seed/chemistry) are supplied to field investigator
    • Responsible for developing data aligned with the GTM strategy to build confidence and competence in our internal sales and marketing organizations, external sellers and customers.
    • Represent Market Development with the development of the GTM strategy using your expertise to create value added data by the correct positioning of seeds, traits, Biologicals and crop protection for each country and/or region for SSA to create pull at grower and channel partner level.
    • Collaborate with CCL’s, Country Leads, Digital Lead and Customer Marketing to effectively deliver agronomic support, information and insights throughout the distribution system to enhance the customer experience across all product brands.
    • Responsible for developing and implementing a product positioning/value add strategy for the region of responsibility.
    • Responsible support the development and implement the digital strategy for SSA for example Track and Trace, Lead and Advisor.
    • Responsible to create customer pull through the implementation of the GTM strategy.
    • Responsible for developing and implementing a sales support strategy for the region of responsibility linked to the GTM strategy and sales KPI’s
    • Develop, implement, standardize and measure impact of farmer pull initiatives (Boots on Value) with a mindset of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
    • Drive the safety agenda.
    • Responsible for the stewardship and adherence to company polices ensuring all conditions of buffers, isolation zones, seed logs, harvest disposition
    • Leading and developing efficient people and teams within the area of responsibility.
    • Manage data using internal database systems and prepare summaries as required to meet business needs and packages to support solutions and positioning as required.
    • Build profile as technical expert in territory.

    Experience, Skills and Qualifications

    • MSc degree in Ag/Life Sciences or related discipline or BSc Degree with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in agricultural research
    • Superior understanding of crop production which includes relevant crops for the region
    • Good working knowledge of Crop Protection Industry and Seed Business  
    • Excellent relationship and team skills
    • Understanding of strategies and drive the implementation thereof
    • Understanding of implications of actions on the achievement of BCS short term and long-term objectives
    • Advanced written, verbal, and presentation skill set  
    • Excellent organization and time management
    • Proactive partner with sales to exceed business targets
    • Fluency in English

    Production Research Agronomist

    Role Purpose

    The Production Research Agronomist role is responsible for executing Production Research Support and Technology Deployment in Bayer Seed Manufacturing across Kenya and other West and Central African countries, ensuring operational excellence, and driving continuous improvement. Building strong partnerships with internal stakeholders across countries and globally to drive reliable, high quality and cost-effective seed production processes, while speeding up technology adoption to create an operational excellence culture within the region.

    Key responsibilities and tasks

    • Implement Production Research field and plant technologies that provide technical support to the Seed Manufacturing team for improvement of production cost, seed quality and production reliability
    • Drive Production Research field testing operational excellence efforts within the region
    • Test and deploy new technologies to drive efficiency and improve data quality within the region
    • Partner with Production Research counterparts in other word regions to drive alignment and consistency in testing activities
    • Promote agronomic and technical improvements within regional Production Research team, as well as broader production organization
    • Support safety/ESH initiatives across production research teams in Africa
    • Drives operational improvements, metrics tracking and implementation of best practices through team members and along with peers
    • Being able to influence key stakeholders to ensure successful technology deployment

    Experience, Skills and Qualifications

    • MSc with 3-years or BSc with 5-years’ experience in a relevant Agricultural discipline (agricultural research, plant physiology, plant breeding or related field)
    • //Must have hands-on experience in design and execution of general, field and laboratory trial setups 
    • Strong record of innovation and applying new technology.
    • Knowledge of seed production operations will be beneficial
    • Experience in working in a team-based environment and capacity to influence within matrixed organizations (relationships and network)
    • Results driven and capacity to influence within a matrixed organization and across functions
    • Excellent communication – oral, written, under diverse circumstances and audiences
    • Willingness to work in field conditions
    • Basic knowledge of Seed Production, Pest and Disease identification and its control
    • Results orientation
    • Driver’s license
    • Analytical Skills & interpretation skills
    • Willingness and ability to travel up to 60% of time
    • Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing expertise
