    School Counsellor

    Section: Secondary Section

    Reporting to: Deputy Head Teacher – Student Welfare and Inclusion

    JOB SUMMARY:

    In recognition that secondary school students live in a dynamic world and are faced with various challenges as they transition into adulthood and into various careers, the School Counsellor will provide holistic & proactive services and programmes that will contribute and build each student’s educational, vocational, personal and social development.

    DUTIES AND ROLES:

    1. Uphold the school’s comprehensive, proactive, and vibrant school-wide pastoral program to meet students’ needs in personal and social development
    2. Maintain caseload of students on the Welfare Register as well as any other students requesting individual counselling, or requested via teachers/parents
    3. Guide students in developing career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans
    4. Assist the Head of Careers with all things university related; independently run the admissions program for students seeking admission into North American universities
    5. Consult and collaborate with teaching staff, parents, and third party participants (e.g. therapists) to support the ongoing wellbeing of our students
    6. Maintain regular and ongoing communication with line manager for consultation and to ensure safeguarding standards are upheld
    7. Teach two hours fortnightly of Year 9 PSHCE and assist with other PSHCE year groups as requested by line manager

    KEY DELIVERABLES:

    1. A comprehensive, proactive, and vibrant school-wide pastoral program
    2. A term-based review of the program, results of which may influence the planning of the following term’s program
    3. Collection and analysis of data relevant to the programme, including detailed progress notes, number of individual counselling sessions, interventions, etc.

    QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

    1. Degree in counselling or related field required; professional qualifications and/or Masters degree in counselling preferred
    2. Understand and apply technology in daily operations, including use of educational management systems
    3. Solid knowledge and understanding of counselling theory & practice
    4. Experience in a secondary school, preferably in the British National curriculum
    5. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication and influencing skills
    6. Team player/collaborative, management skills, and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
    7. Ability to maintain confidentiality
    8. Maintain courtesy and professionalism with all clients
    9. Innovative, enthusiastic, energetic, flexible

    Subject Teacher –Physical Education (Full time)

    Section: Preparatory School

    Reporting to: Head of Sports department

    Responsible for: Student Outcomes

    The Role:

    The successful candidate will be a sportsperson of proven ability, preferably with experience and expertise in coaching hockey and football. S/he will be required to teach PE and Games lessons.

    Job Purpose:

    • To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated learning and coaching for students
    • To prepare students for sports tournaments through coaching
    • To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a teacher and contribute to making sports exciting and vibrant.
    • To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential
    • To contribute to raising standards of student attainment
    • To share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Ensure effective learning for all students through excellent teaching and delivery of well-planned and organised lessons across key stages.
    • Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students.
    • Use appropriate strategies to ensure outstanding student progress and well-being.
    • Set and mark challenging class and homework according to school policy.
    • Support the development of teaching materials and courses of study.
    • Liaise with parents and support staff to ensure excellent attainment.
    • Support extended intervention/enrichment activities to enhance students’ learning experience.
    • Manage the behaviour of students in classrooms and around the school.
    • Maintain an organised and well-presented learning environment for students.
    • Contributing to the maintenance of a supportive and stimulating learning environment for all students
    • Support and uphold the requirements of school polices.
    • Adhere to the staff code of conduct.
    • Be an effective teacher and role model.
    • Be responsible for ensuring subject knowledge is developed and participate in staff training and development.
    • Attend team/staff meetings and other staff engagements
    • Participate in relevant administrative and organisational tasks.

    Subject Teacher –Kiswahili (Part-time)

    Section: Preparatory School

    Reporting to: Head of Department

    Responsible for: Student Outcomes

    The Role:

    The successful candidate will be required to teach Kiswahili and create an enabling and exciting environment for learning the subject. All students at the Preparatory school learn the language and though it is not an examinable subject, students should be able to understand and converse in Kiswahili.
