    Paramedic

    Key Responsibilities

    The paramedic is directly responsible to the Nursing Officer In Charge and will carry out the following duties:

    • Respond to emergency calls and provide on-site and enroute emergency medical care to patients of all ages, ensuring smooth transfer and handover to referral facilities.
    • Triage patients in waiting bays or during mass casualty situations, identifying and prioritizing acute cases.

    Deliver emergency and trauma care such as:

    • Airway management and assisted ventilation
    • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
    • Control of hemorrhage and treatment of shock
    • Bandaging wounds and immobilizing fractures/spinal injuries
    • Support in emergency childbirth
    • Management of general medical conditions in prehospital settings
    • Continuously assess and monitor patients during transfer, and provide interventions based on condition or under medical guidance.
    • Support clinical teams during procedures, consultations, ward rounds, and daily care activities.
    • Ensure infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols, universal precautions, and hygiene standards are strictly adhered to.
    • Actively participate in major emergency responses, ensuring safety and coordinated care during mass casualty incidents.
    • Maintain up-to-date, clear, and comprehensive documentation of patient care provided.
    • Stay familiar with medical equipment used in emergency response and attend refresher trainings and CMEs as needed.
    • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical requirements during emergencies, including handling of deceased patients and safeguarding personal property.

    Reporting and communication

    • Maintain comprehensive records and legal documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and referrals.
    • Attend and support internal CMEs and skills-building sessions.
    • Submit timely HIS reports and participate in service audits and reviews.
    • Monitor and ensure optimal utilization of emergency supplies and maintain buffer stocks.

    Operations

    • Manage emergency calls with professionalism—gathering critical information, advising callers appropriately, and dispatching services efficiently.
    • Practice within the scope defined by Kenyan regulations and institutional policies.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Diploma or degree in Nursing or Emergency Medical Technology from a recognized institution.
    • Must be registered by a relevant regulatory body (e.g., NCK or KETC).
    • Training or certification in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is highly desirable.
    • Minimum of 2 years post-registration clinical experience in an acute care or emergency setting.
    • Prior experience in humanitarian or refugee contexts is an added advantage.

    Medical Officer

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Management

    • Ensure all patients are attended to daily in the hospital.
    • Ensure the hospital is running effectively in all the wards
    • Attend to all emergencies, both medical and surgical.
    • Manage and supervise all the staff in respective wards.
    • Ensure proper documentation of patient care in patient files.
    • Conduct daily ward rounds in respective wards, i.e. maternity, adult, pediatrics, stabilization center and isolation wards.
    • Quality control by verifying case management is as per protocol/guidelines.
    • Ensuring that department needs are documented and submitted to the MOIC for budgeting
    • Providing weekly updates of the ward status, trends and needs including mitigation measures where surges are forecasted.
    • Performance management of the department by setting department level targets, implementing activities to meet targets.
    • Managing and escalating any issues that arise from the departments
    • Carry out all elective and emergency obstetric/Gynecological cases in theatre.
    • Conduct all elective and emergency surgical cases in theatre.
    • Carry out special clinics in the hospital on weekly basis i.e., SOPC, GOPC, HRC, MOPC and POPC.
    • Attend to all medical legal cases, i.e. Filling of P3 forms and attend court sessions as deem fit.
    • Ensure survivors with sexual assault cases are promptly attended in GBV centre.
    • Ensure all referrals both Emergency and Elective, to secondary and tertiary care centers are done promptly.

    Human Resource

    • Be a team leader in the hospital and in the care of patients.
    • Supervision of the nursing in charge of the department
    • Developing and managing leave plans and duty rotas for the department
    • Managing disciplinary cases that arise from the departments with support from the NOIC, HR and management.
    • Attend the Clinical staff meetings and give program updates as required.
    • Manage the Clinical Services Program in acting capacity when the Health Manager is not in office
    • Co-ordinate and Participate the Continuous Medical Education (CME) for staff and give updates on care of patients.

    Program activities

    • Conduct daily ward rounds in respective wards.
    • Be the doctor on call on weekly basis, 24hrs/7 days.
    • Carry out all emergency surgical/obstetric cases in theatre.
    • Conduct all special clinics on weekly basis, SOPC, GOPC, HRC, POPC, MOPC.
    • Properly document patient diagnosis, plans of treatment and care on patient files.
    • Attend morning handover meetings and give feedback on patient care.
    • Carry out all elective surgical and gynecological cases.
    • Attend to all medical legal issues, fill P3 forms and attend court sessions.
    • Lead in death audits of the department in a timely manner, action points documented and followed up
    • Heading the quality improvement team for the department and ensuring action plans are completed.
    • Fill the referral forms for both emergency and elective referrals.

    Reporting and Coordination

    • Information sharing: Regularly share and discuss timely, accurate and relevant information with communities about; access and eligibility to services, expected staff behavior, and community feedback, safeguarding mechanisms and how to use them.
    • Feedback Collection and reporting: Promote the formal feedback mechanisms to capture, monitor, respond to, and act on feedback and complaints from communities by documenting feedback received from the community through informal interactions, observations, and focus group discussions. Reporting community needs, preferences, and feedback to managers and client responsiveness focal persons.

    Others

    • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, MBChB.
    • Registered with Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.
    • Minimum 2 yrs of working experience in a busy hospital.
    • Able to work with minimal supervision.

    Required Experience & Competencies:

    • Be flexible, a team player and result oriented.
    • Be ready to work in challenging and multitasking environment.
    • Computer literacy in MS Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, is desired.

    Clinical Officer-Anesthetist

    Key Responsibilities

    Anaesthetic Management

    • Administer anaesthesia to patients for various surgical and medical procedures, ensuring appropriate techniques are utilized based on patient assessment.
    • Monitor patients throughout surgical procedures, managing and responding to any anaesthetic-related complications.
    • Conduct pre-operative evaluations to determine suitable anaesthetic plans and obtain informed consent.
    • Provide post-operative care, including pain management and monitoring recovery from anaesthesia.

    Theatre and Equipment Oversight

    • Supervise theatre staff to ensure efficient and safe operations within the surgical suite.
    • Keep an updated inventory of theatre equipment, their maintenance schedule and working status. Raise any requests for repairs and maintenance in a timely manner.
    • Manage inventory of anaesthetic medications and supplies, ensuring availability and proper storage.

    Emergency Response and Patient Care

    • Participate in emergency response teams for trauma cases and mass casualty incidents, providing critical anaesthetic support.
    • Assist in the management of critically ill patients in various hospital departments as needed.
    • Provide health education to patients and their families regarding anaesthetic procedures and post-operative care.
    • Attend to minor Surgical cases and procedures referred to theatre (Esophageal foreign body removal, Ear and nose foreign body removal, circumcisions, excision of ganglions and lipomas.

    Training and Continuous Education

    • Conduct on-the-job training sessions for medical staff, enhancing their knowledge and skills in anaesthetic practices.
    • Participate in regular medical education meetings and workshops to stay updated on advancements in anaesthesia.

    Documentation and Reporting

    • Accurately document all anaesthetic procedures, patient responses, and any complications encountered.
    • Prepare and submit regular reports on theatre activities and anaesthetic services to the Medical Officer in charge.

    Others

    • Perform related duties as assigned, within your scope of practice

    Required Experience & Competencies

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Anaesthetist in a busy hospital setting.
    • Proficiency in administering various anaesthetic techniques and managing related equipment.
    • Strong clinical and critical thinking skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural team environment.
    • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
    • Experience working in resource-limited or humanitarian settings is an added advantage
