    Psychiatric Clinical Officer

    AFRIMEB is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Clinical Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive mental health services, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of mental health conditions, and participate in implementing research projects at AFRIMEB.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement individualized and group/family treatment plans, including psychotherapy, and administering medication while ensuring safety and efficacy.
    • Assist in recruiting participants for research projects and ensure their eligibility based on clinical assessments.
    • Conduct assessments to confirm mental health diagnoses among people who are homeless. 
    • Tracking participant progress as part of ongoing research projects.
    • Work closely with the research team to integrate clinical findings into research protocols.
    • Maintain detailed clinical records that are aligned with data requirements and ethical guidelines.
    • Ensure the accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of data collected from participants during assessments and treatment.
    • Collaborate with other researchers to analyze data and contribute to the interpretation of findings.
    • Stay updated on the latest developments in mental health care and research and implement evidence-based practices in both clinical and research settings.
    • Participate in implementing research projects at AFRIMEB as directed by supervisor.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • At least a Diploma in Clinical Medicine with a specialization in psychiatry/mental health training from a recognized institution.
    • Valid registration with the Clinical Officers Council.
    • At least one year working in mental health care.
    • Strong understanding of mental disorders, treatment protocols, and the latest developments in the field.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills.
    • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with compassion and empathy.
    • Experience working in community mental health programs is an added advantage.

    Field Enumerator

    The successful applicants will be based in Nairobi and will work very closely with other research team members to collect data manually and/or electronically among individuals who are homeless.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Assist in recruitment of study participants among the homeless population.
    • Obtain informed consent from study participants who are homeless.
    • Ensure privacy of participants and maintain the confidentiality of participant information at all times.
    • Conduct a set of assessments as per the study protocol.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

    Qualifications:

    • Diploma/Bachelor degree in Nursing, Clinical Medicine or Social work from a recognized institution.
    • Previous experience in research/data collection.

    Requirements:

    The successful candidates will be required to:

    • Be very organized and keen on details.
    • Show commitment, availability and readiness to undergo full training on the processes and study assessments.
    • Reside in Nairobi County.
    • Maintain a friendly, “customer-first” perspective in dealing with study participants.
    • Ability to maintain privacy for study participants and confidentiality of participant information.
