Purpose of the position

The Linguist performs quality control tasks and on-demand translation tasks, and takes on linguistic lead functions on assigned accounts/projects; coordinates the activities of a group of translators (internal and/or freelancers) for assigned accounts/projects, trains and develops freelancers, and ensures that the work is performed at a satisfactorily high standard within the specified deadlines and quality level; ensures that the Language Process is being followed by the project/account team.

Job Description

• Performing quality control tasks on assigned projects or accounts (EN > SW KE)
• Performing on-demand translation tasks (EN > SW KE)
• Performing transcreation/translation/post-editing tasks (EN > SW KE)
• Performing other translation-related admin tasks (EN > SW KE)
• Managing project-related queries
• Preparing, managing, and maintaining the language materials (including glossaries, Style Guides, and work instruction) up to quality standards and up to date
• Interacting with clients on linguistic matters as required
• Developing and training new and existing translators according to the accounts’ and Welocalize’s needs
• Ensuring good interaction among team members and resolving questions on terminology and language matters
• Participating in the development of new and improved working processes
• Arbitrations/ RCA & LQE feedback (helping the team with filing arbitrations)
• Achieving the goals set by the Swahili Team Lead

Qualifications

• University degree in Translation/Applied Languages and related experience as translator and/or reviewer of 2+ years.
• Fluent in Swahili (native level), both written and spoken, fluent in English, both written and spoken.
• Experienced as a translator in Mobile Apps, Search Engines, IT Consumer Products, Entertainment, Marketing, Software UI, and Websites is a plus.
• Excellent feel for language (source/target).
• Knowledge of terminology in the following subject matters IT consumer products, social media, and entertainment.
• Thorough understanding of the localization process. 
• The excellent user experience of standard software, such as Windows and Office applications and standard CAT tools (e.g. SDL Studio, XTM).
• Ability to learn new localization tools and applications quickly.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and translators.

Job Description

DDD is seeking individuals that have a passion for popular music and the artists who drive the craft. We are seeking candidates also be involved in transcribing lyrical content in their target language in line with project and industry priorities. It is your role to evaluate the quality of both internal and external partner content to ensure the quality and standards of the finished products before they reach the user.

We are looking for candidates with strong music, lyrics, metadata, data analysis, and translation backgrounds. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing Music Lyrics Content - transcribing lyrics, proofreading/editing/QC-ing lyrics, and analyzing music/artist metadata. Excellent linguistic skills, and music knowledge. You will need a passion for technology and a will to question the current workflows with the mindset to improve tools and processes.

Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following;

Lyrics

• Transcribe lyrics for high-priority content
• Verify lyric accuracy on content sourced from partners, ensuring it meets the provided standards
• Maintain time-sync coverage for the top 80% of plays

Music Curation

• Polish top albums in the local market each week
• Polish albums/tracks featured in campaigns
• Maintain polishing coverage for the top 80% of plays
• Make edits to the metadata when needed

Artist Curation

• Curate top artists in the local market each week
• Polish artist pages featured in campaigns
• Make edits to the metadata when needed

Qualifications

• University degree preferably in Linguistics, Journalism, or Mass Communication
• Fluent in English (both written and spoken, in a wide range of registers)
• Fluent in either Afrikaans, Yoruba, Igbo, Swahili, or Twi (with an understanding of conversational and easy-to-read and write Afrikaans,Yoruba, Igbo, Swahili, or Twi plus excellent spelling and grammar of standard Afrikaans,Yoruba, Igbo, Swahili, or Twi
• Passion for languages, specifically in Afrikaans, Yoruba, Igbo, Swahili, or Twi,
