    Programme Management Officer

    Responsibilities

    • Develops, implements and evaluates assigned programmes/projects, and activities under the Nutrients portfolio; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
    • Performs consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
    • Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
    • Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
    • Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
    • Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications.
    • Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations.
    • Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
    • Participates in or lead field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries.
    • Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget).
    • Provides policy and technical advice and support to governments, partners and other stakeholders on implementation of Global Partnership on Nutrients management (GPNM), UNEA resolutions including sustainable Nitrogen management and related initiatives.
    • Contributes to the Marine and Freshwaters Branch and Ecosystem Division’s overall goals as well as to the achievements of UNEP midterm strategy (MTS) and programme of Work (PoW) priorities through the alignment of projects and programmes.
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Education

    • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in marine biology, hydrology, Nutrients management, environmental science, natural resources management, business administration, management, economics, or a related field is required.
    • A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management or related area, including at least three (3) years at the international level is required.

    Chinese Language Digital Media Consultant

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP's mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Communication Division communicates UNEP's core messages to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness and enhancing the profile of UNEP worldwide.
    • The Chinese language consultant reports to the Head, Social Media Unit, of UNEP’s Communication Division. The incumbent will perform the following functions:
    • Provides Chinese language website services such as:
    • Updates content on UNEP Chinese website and all UNEP campaign sites;
    • Ensures relevant content is translated from English to Chinese and posted in a timely manner;
    • Proofreads all content posted on the Chinese language website.
    • Coordinates review of existing Chinese-language sections of UNEP website to determine need for revisions.

    Provides Chinese language social media services such as:

    • Develops social media strategy and execution plans for Chinese-speaking audiences;
    • Coordinates creation of Chinese-language digital boards for campaigns;
    • Translates content from English to Chinese for posting on social media channels;
    • Maintains UNEP Chinese language social media channels;
    • Posts relevant and timely content on social media channels;
    • Engages with Chinese-speaking audience on social media channels;
    • Translates different types of content such as press releases, infographics, select publication, stories, campaign related content, etc from English to Chinese and makes these available on various channels;
    • Promotes UNEP’s work and messages to Chinese-language stakeholders via support to communications and outreach activities;
    • Reviews statistics and analytics and adjusts/adapts content strategy to maximize reach;
    • Participates in other Communication Division activities (training, meetings, workshops);

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Academic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication, linguistic studies, translation or related field is required.
    • Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in translating English/Chinese.
    • Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency in English and Chinese is required.
