    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Arbitration of disputes on inheritance, marriage & divorce among Muslim families
    • Solemnizing and registering Muslim marriages
    • Supervising pronunciation of Muslim divorces and registering them
    • Signing of affidavits, declarations and agreements
    • Translating Arabic related documents
    • Supervising the registries under him/her in consultation with the magistrate in charge; and,
    • Keeping records of all arbitration and submitting returns of registered marriages and divorces.

    Job Requirements: Academic and Professional Qualifications 
    For appointment to this grade, the applicant must: -

    • Have a degree in Islamic Law or its equivalent from a recognized university.
    • Profess the Islamic faith
    • Member of recognised Islamic Association 
    • iBe able to effectively communicate in English, Kiswahili & Arabic languages
    • Be of good conduct in accordance with Islamic faith
    • Proficient in computer application
    • Possess the qualifications set out in Chapter six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya; and,
    • A Strategic Management Course from a recognized Institution;
    • Meets requirements of Chapter 6 of the constitution.

    Experience: 

    • At least Fifteen (15) years’ experience as a distinguished academic in Islamic law, or Islamic law practitioner or such experience in other related fields;

    • Served in the grade of a Senior Principal Kadhi M7/R5 or in a comparable and relevant position for at least three (3) years.
    • Demonstrated managerial and professional competence in work performance and results.

    Member, National Environment Tribunal

    JOB REFERENCE NUMBER: V/No. 29/2022

    Duties and Responsibilities
    A member of a tribunal shall discharge the following duties: -

    • Participate in hearing and determination of all disputes which come before the full bench;’
    • Recording proceedings in a clear and accurate manner;
    • Approving, sign, issue and certify orders, decrees and certificates of costs and copies of proceedings;
    • Writing awards, judgments, orders, rulings and decrees issued by the Tribunal;
    • Support implementation of the Tribunals’ plans and programmes to achieve the Tribunals vision and mission.
    • Provide requisite professional and technical support to ensure the Tribunal attains a high level of competitiveness and ethical standards in its entire programmes.
    • Undertaking any other duty assigned for the benefit of the Tribunal

    Qualifications

    For appointment to the position of Member of NET, an applicant must be in possession of the qualifications provided under section 125 (1) (a) of the Environmental Management and Coordination Act of 1999.

    • Be a person qualified for appointment as a Judge of the Environment and Land Court of Kenya, viz;
    • Hold a law degree from a recognized university, or be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, or possess an equivalent qualification in a common-law jurisdiction.
    • Have at least ten (10) years’ experience as a Superior Court Judge or professionally qualified Magistrate irrespective of whether that experience was gained in Kenya or in another commonwealth common-law jurisdiction; or
    • Have at least ten (10) years’ experience as a distinguished academic or legal practitioner with knowledge and experience in matters relating to environment and land or such experience in other relevant legal field irrespective of whether that experience was gained in Kenya or in another commonwealth common-law jurisdiction; or
    • Have held the qualifications specified in paragraphs (b) and (c) for a period amounting, in aggregate, to ten (10) years.
    • Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity.
    • In addition, the applicants must demonstrate a high degree of professional competence, communication skills, fairness, good temperament, good judgment in both legal and life experiences and commitment to public and community service.
    • Be a member of a relevant professional body in good standing;

    Successful candidates will be required to submit valid copies of clearance certificates from the following bodies on Appointment: -
    Kenya Revenue Authority

    • Higher Education Loans Board
    • Directorate of Criminal Investigation 
    • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission 
    • A recognized Credit Reference Bureau; and
    • Clearance from relevant professional body.
