    Clinical Nurse, Renal Unit

    Responsibilities:

    • Performs assessment of patients pre, during and post dialysis.
    • Interprets assessment data in order to determine, together with the physician the correct treatment plan.
    • Commences patients on dialysis, monitors them during procedure and successfully disconnects them at completion of treatment
    • Administers prescribed medications and other treatments as per physician orders
    • Closely monitors the functioning of dialysis equipment during procedure promptly attending to alarms.
    • Identifies dialysis reaction or change in patient condition and notifies the physician when necessary.
    • Provide safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies, timely safety checks on dialysis machines, beds, IV pumps and oxygen source.
    • Provides expertise, training and support for the ward nurses to perform peritoneal dialysis.
    • Identify patient and family education needs and implement appropriate teaching.
    • Ensures accurate and timely documentation of vital observations, dialysis progress and medications given.
    • Be accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of ward stock drugs and consumables.
    • Care for equipment through cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely reporting and follow up of nonfunctional equipment to the unit supervisor.
    • Participates in unit based continuous education, quality improvement (QI) projects, Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC) audits, spot checks and skill checks.
    • Assist the supervisor with orientation and mentoring of new nurses and students.
    • May assist in Med-Surg units and in Kidney Transplant program

    Requirements:

    • KRCHN /BScN from a recognized school of Nursing or University
    • Current Licensure with the Nursing council of Kenya
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Demonstrate evidence based knowledge of current practices in Renal nursing
    • Demonstrate Leadership and management skills

    Supervisor, Renal Unit

    Responsibilities:

    • Is responsible for day-to-day smooth running of the units, which includes staffing, appropriate scheduling of patients, providing working equipment and coordinating all patient care activities.
    • Develop unit goals and objectives in collaboration with Nephrology section head and Nursing Director.
    • Collaborates with the team in development, implementation and review of policies, procedures, protocols, clinical pathways and care guidelines.
    • Is responsible for the recruitment, selection, training and performance reviews of the nursing team in Nephrology.
    • Participates in the budget process for nephrology services and is responsible for monitoring budget variance.
    • Provides effective supervision of the nursing staff and utilizes learning opportunities for their development.
    • Fosters pleasant working environment through engagement of staff in the unit including physicians.
    • Leads the team in development of clinical protocols for Dialysis and Renal transplantation.
    • Collaborates with the team to identify standards of care for renal patients care and compliance through established Key Performance Indicators.
    • Promotes continuous learning for the nursing staff and acts as a resource person.
    • Provides a clean and comfortable environment for both staff and clients.
    • Evaluates customer feedback about Dialysis Services and takes appropriate action.

    Requirements:

    • Registered nurse with current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BScN)
    • Certification in BLS
    • Certification in Sedation training
    • Minimum of five (5) years clinical nursing experience in Medical-Surgical nursing in an acute care hospital.
    • Minimum of two (2) years continuous experience in a busy Renal unit.
    • Must possess leadership qualities, professional judgement, critical thinking, problem solving abilities and a sense of professional development.
    • Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge in Nephrology Nursing and in all forms of Nephrology procedures

    Pharmaceutical Technologist, Outreach Clinic Nyeri

    Responsibilities:

    • Receive, verify prescriptions and dispense drugs in a timely manner within approved standards and procedures.
    • Contact the physician immediately for inaccuracy and illegibility in a prescription order, document errors and communicate them to the nursing and pharmacy staff
    • Verify expiry dates of drugs prior to dispensing medication to patients/customers.
    • Check that every label placed on the medications contains the correct patient name, drug, quantity and directions.
    • Compound extemporaneous preparations and mix certain intravenous medications as per laid down procedures.
    • Counsel patients on drug administration and use of devices for optimum wellness and recovery.
    • Receive, return and update drug credits on the system in a timely manner.
    • Deliver drug discharges to patients in the ward where applicable
    • Communicate out of stock and non-stock effectively and timely to prescriber and nurse and provide alternative choice or make arrangements to order promptly.
    • Comply and observe the environmental health and safety measures and regulations by proper handling, storage and dispensation of medications
    • Record, monitor and update the expiry list of medications in timely manner.
    • Complete documentation of Interventions, Medication errors and Near Miss, Adverse events, Medication queries, Patient complaints or any other incidents and forward to relevant office
    • Perform random medication checks daily and Monitor variance levels in your respective satellites.
    • Compile daily satellite reports.
    • Carry out regular satellite stock-take exercise.
    • Report any special indicators allocated.

    Requirements:

    • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution
    • Registered with The Kenya Pharmaceutical Association
    • Practicing License from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
    • 2 year working experience in a busy facility, preferably a hospital
