    GIS & MEL Officer

    Role Overview

    The GIS & MEL Officer will provide technical leadership in geospatial analysis, remote sensing, and MEL systems. The role supports programme design, implementation, reporting, and advocacy by generating high-quality spatial and analytical evidence.

    Working closely with programme teams, country MEL staff, communications, and partners, the officer will manage spatial and non-spatial data, support field data collection, and strengthen internal capacity across the region.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct geospatial analysis, mapping, and satellite imagery interpretation
    • Design and coordinate MEL frameworks, indicators, and measurement plans
    • Support baseline, midline, and endline data collection processes
    • Manage databases, ensure data quality, and integrate GIS with programme indicators
    • Produce monitoring reports, dashboards, maps, and visual summaries
    • Facilitate learning, reflection, and knowledge generation processes
    • Support programme design and proposal development with GIS and MEL inputs
    • Strengthen staff and partner capacity on GIS and MEL tools

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Statistics, MEL, or a related field
    • 3–5 years’ experience in GIS or MEL within development or environmental programmes
    • Strong skills in GIS software, data analysis, and digital data collection platforms
    • Experience working with multi-country or regional programmes
    • Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills

    Regional Policy & Advocacy Officer

    Role Overview

    • The Regional Policy & Advocacy Officer will lead strategic policy engagement and advocacy to elevate wetlands within climate, water, biodiversity, and development agendas. The role involves analysing policy trends, developing evidence-based positions, engaging decision-makers, and building strong coalitions at national and regional levels.
    • The officer will represent the organisation in high-level policy spaces, translate programme evidence into policy-relevant messages, and support partners to engage effectively in policy processes.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Monitor and analyse policy developments relevant to wetlands, climate, and biodiversity
    • Develop and implement regional advocacy strategies
    • Produce policy briefs, position papers, and technical advisory notes
    • Engage governments, regional bodies, and partners in policy dialogue
    • Represent Wetlands International in regional and international forums
    • Work with MEL, GIS, and communications teams to package evidence for advocacy
    • Strengthen policy and advocacy capacity of partners and civil society organisations

    Requirements

    • Master’s degree in environmental policy, natural resource management, political science, international relations, or a related field
    • 5–7 years’ experience in policy analysis, advocacy, or government engagement
    • Strong understanding of Eastern Africa governance and regional institutions
    • Proven experience influencing policy processes or delivering advocacy campaigns
    • Excellent writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills

    Communications Intern

    Role Overview

    The Communications Intern will support day-to-day communication activities under the guidance of the Communications Officer. The role offers hands-on learning in storytelling, photography, social media management, and donor visibility, while contributing to the organisation’s regional communications outputs.

    Working closely with programme teams, MEL/GIS officers, and country teams, the intern will help document field activities, support digital platforms, and assist in the preparation of communication materials.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Draft social media posts, captions, short articles, and field stories
    • Support content gathering from staff, partners, and field activities
    • Assist with managing social media platforms and tracking basic analytics
    • Capture and edit photos and short video clips for communication use
    • Support editing of basic multimedia content using tools such as Canva, CapCut, and Adobe Creative Suite
    • Assist with documentation during workshops, meetings, and field missions
    • Support donor visibility through preparation and tracking of communication materials
    • Provide logistical and administrative support for communication-related activities

    Requirements

    • Diploma or degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, or a related field
    • At least six (6) months’ practical experience in a similar role
    • Interest or experience in social media management and digital communications
    • Basic photography, videography, and content editing skills
    • Strong organisational, communication, and teamwork skills
    • Willingness to learn and work in a fast-paced environment
