    Legal Counsel

    JOB SUMMARY

    Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel Mombasa, the successful candidate will be expected to provide legal aid and representation services to clients, facilitate alternative dispute resolution programs, and participate in the implementation of women’s rights advocacy programs in the Coast Region.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Conducts clients’ interviews; provides legal advice to clients; prepares pleadings and legal opinions; conducts pretrial briefings; and provides legal representation to clients.
    • Assist in the coordination of open legal aid days and training workshops.
    • Maintain effective client relations, offer basic psychosocial support to our clients, and refer complex matters to counselors.
    • Identify, recruit, and refer matters to pro bono lawyers; conduct followups on the pro bono cases; process payment of tokens to pro bono lawyers.
    • Conduct selfrepresentation trainings and assist in managing self rep program.
    • Identify and refer matters for mediation and Informal Justice Systems; draft and dispatch mediation invitations; conduct mediation sessions and participate in strengthening the capacity of elders and mediators.
    • Conduct Informal justice systems review meetings.
    • Support the implementation of grants (projects) and preparation of donor reports while ensuring that program objectives/interventions and budget compliance are met.
    • Assist in preparation of periodic progress reports such as RBM report, annual report, and donor reports.
    • Represent the organization in meetings with stakeholders.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • An advocate of the High Court of Kenya with at least Three (3) years postadmission experience with a valid practicing certificate. Previous experience in the NGO sector is highly desirable.
    • Proven experience in litigation and knowledge in gender & women’s rights issues.
    • Should have knowledge of program planning, designing, monitoring & evaluation.
    • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, proficiency in computers, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
    • Ability to work under pressure.

    Deputy Executive Director (DED) & Head of Programmes

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Manage and ensure the formulation and successful implementation of FIDA Kenya programmes.
    • In consultation with the Executive Director, provide leadership, motivation, mentorship and productivity within the programs.
    • Contribute to the development of programs and appropriate work plans.
    • Provide technical support to programs and project officers in managing Grants Portfolio.
    • Assist in developing and reviewing resource mobilization strategies.
    • Review funding concepts and proposals in consultation with the Executive Director.
    • Ensure the development of quality proposals and submission of donor reports by programs.
    • Representing FIDA Kenya in external donors’ forums and partner activities.
    • Coordinate the running of the three offices in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.
    • Assist the Executive Director to build and sustain effective partnerships with government, like minded organizations and other civil societies.
    • Assist the Executive Director in enhancing FIDA Kenya’s visibility.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current practicing certificate.
    • Should have over seven (7) years’ post admission experience, three (3) of which should be in a Senior Management.
    • Masters in Law or Social Sciences.
    • Demonstrated competency in program planning, designing, monitoring & evaluation and financial management skills.
    • Strong experience in Human Rights, Gender & Women’s Rights Issues.
    • A proved track record of people management skills
    • Ability to enhance great organization culture and establish great working relationships
    • Excellent leadership and communication skills.

    HR & Administration Manager

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    •  Lead the implementation of HR policies, and systems.
    • Ensure all HR practices are aligned with labour and other relevant laws and reflect best
      practices;
    • Manage recruitment and selection processes.
    • Coordinate onboarding and orientation of new employees and assist managers in reviewing job descriptions for current and new positions.
    • Ensure personnel records and employment contracts are complete and up to date.
    • Lead the professional development of staff by identifying training needs, selecting appropriate training courses, and tracking the use of training budget.
    • Support implementation of the performance appraisal system.
    • Assist managers with disciplinary matters related to staff performance or behavior.
    • Communicate payroll changes and ensuring all employee benefits are accurately managed.
    • Provide oversight for Administration functions.
    • Provide oversight to outsourced ICT service providers.
    • Assist in the preparation of Board meetings, including providing organizational and administrative support as required.

    Minimum Requirements

    The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications and attributes: –

    • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration/Commerce (HR option), or Social Sciences. Having a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management is highly desired.
    • Be a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) or have a Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management.
    • Have Five (5) years experience in human resources management at the senior management level. Experience in the NGO sector is highly desired.
    • Must be a member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM)
    • A Certified Public Secretary (K) and a registered member of the Institute of Certified Secretaries in Kenya is an added advantage.
    • Possesses advanced ICT skills and experience using ERP Systems.
