    News and Media Consultant

    Responsibilities

UNEP's mandate is to coordinate the development of
    • environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Communications Division communicates UNEP's core messages to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness and enhancing the profile of UNEP worldwide.
    • To help achieve UNEP's mandate to engage the media which includes drafting materials including creating innovative & effective media strategies, media advisories, press releases, key messaging documents, crafting and placing OpEds and securing & conducting media interviews. In addition, support during key events will also be required in attendance and designing media strategies to ensure sufficient media uptake of key decisions/objectives, specifically the fifteenth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-15) and the twenty-sixth Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. All outputs will be delivered in close collaboration with the teams that the consultant is hired to support.

    Qualifications/special skills

    Academic Qualifications:

    • Advanced Masters Degree or higher degree in journalism is required.

    Experience:

    • A minimum of 10-15 years of progressively experience in the media field with strong & established media relationships or related field is required.

    Language:

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required

    Terminal Review Consultant: Solarchill Project

    Responsibilities

    The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

    As one of the implementing agencies of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Climate Change Mitigation Unit - UNEP Environment implemented the project "SolarChill Development, Testing, and Technology Transfer Outreach". The objective of this project is to transfer and commercialize the SolarChill vaccine refrigerator (SolarChill A) and to begin the process of

    Transferring and commercializing the SolarChill household and light commercial refrigerator (SolarChill B).

    The project requires a consultant to undertake a Terminal Review of the mentioned project and will report to the Climate Change Mitigation Office, UNEP. The consultancy will be home-based.

    (S)He will be responsible for overall management of the Terminal Review, in close consultation with the Task Manager, and timely delivery of its outputs as described in the overall Terms of Reference of the review.

    (S)He will lead the Terminal Review design, data collection and analysis, and report-writing.

    More specifically: Undertake the inception phase of the review, including:

    • Conduct project desk review and collate information from the project teams ;
    • Draft the reconstructed Theory of Change of the project;
    • Prepare the Terminal Review framework;
    • Develop the desk review and interview protocols;
    • Draft the survey protocols
    • Plan the Terminal Review schedule;
    • Prepare the inception report for review to be approved by the Climate Change Mitigation Unit

    Coordination of the data collection and analysis phase of the Terminal Review, including:

    • Conduct further desk review and in-depth interviews with project implementing and executing agencies, project partners and stakeholders of the project;
    • Information collection, surveys, data analysis
    • Regularly report back to the Climate Change Mitigation Unit on progress.

    Coordination of the reporting phase, including:

    • Prepare presentation on preliminary findings
    • Draft Main Terminal report ensuring it is consistent with guidelines provide both in substance and style
    • Liaise with the UNEP Climate Change Mitigation Unit on comments received and ensure that comments are taken into account during finalization of the Main report and approved
    • Prepare a Response to Comments annex for the main report, listing those comments not accepted and indicating the reason for their rejection.

    The evaluation consultant will be selected and recruited by the UNEP Climate Change Mitigation Office through an individual Special Service Agreement (SSA) consultancy contract.

    Qualifications/special skills

    Academic Qualifications:

    • An advanced university degree in environmental sciences, engineering, international development or other relevant science area;

    Experience:

    • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Solar Refrigeration technology and technology supply chain management.
    • Experience in solar technology development desirable.

    Language:

    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, fluency in oral and written English is a requirement.

    Education

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in design or execution of Environmental projects and programmes is required.
    • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in leadership, supervision and management of teams is required.
    • Experience in climate change programing; portfolio development and management is desirable.
    • Experience with monitoring and evaluation, knowledge management, and risk assessment in an institutional context is desirable.
    • Experience in Green Climate Fund project formulation is desirable.
