    Information Network Officer, P3

    Responsibilities

    • Managerial: Plan and oversee the management of the portfolio of project and operational activities, ensuring that project and operational activities are carried out in a timely fashion and within the agreed budget.
    • Manage, guide and develop staff under his/her supervision, enhance teamwork and communication among staff and maintain the high reputation as a client oriented service provider.
    • Develop, document, promulgate and promote consistent adherence to high-quality application and end-user IT standards by technical staff and end-users in UN-Habitat.
    • Keep abreast of developments in the field and determine the need for testing and evaluating new products and technologies; provide leadership on introducing technological change, contribute to the development and internal marketing to senior management and overall Information Strategy of the organization.
    • Infrastructure: Oversee the renewal of computers of UN-Habitat staff, ensuring that the correct equipment is procured and deployed on time and that the process is in line with UN replacement and technical standards.
    • Carry out server administration for UN-Habitat's public website and Intranet web servers and undertake the configuration, administration, operation, technical support and monitoring of the organization's Microsoft web servers. This includes deploying new applications on the servers, database administration and mirroring, backup, and security issues.
    • As IT focal point, liaise regularly with UNON/ITS to ensure efficient and reliable operations of the IT infrastructure and proper implementation of the Service Level Agreement, and represent UN-Habitat at Technical Review Group and other inter-agency meetings that impact on campus wide strategy, systems and procedures.
    • Data Analytics: Prepare technical and user documentation, including user requirements, system design and testing documents, IT policies and standards, and operating procedures for staff.
    • Design and develop solutions for data-related technical problems and data infrastructure needs surfaced by Executive, Analytics and Design teams.
    • Manage the identification, design, and implementation of internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing architecture for greater scalability and development of dashboards.
    • Deploy resources to extract data features from complex datasets for data scientists and data analysts.
    • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

    Education

    • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, or related field is required.
    • A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience with Microsoft servers, web-based systems and/or systems analysis is required.
    • Experience in the areas of Microsoft servers, database administration and/or managing application web-based development projects is required.
    • Experience in developing reports and dashboards based on complex datasets is required. Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is required.
    • Experience in planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance of computer information systems is desirable.
    • Experience in the United Nations system or comparable international organizations is desirable. Experience in managing a team is desirable.

    Active Mobility Programme Support Intern

    Responsibilities

    • The recruited candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Lead of the Urban Mobility team. Supporting the team’s broad set of activities and projects, the Intern’s principal tasks will be as follows:
    • Supporting the development of a Walking & Cycling Strategy for Nairobi through the lens of children, aligned with the city’s NMT Master Plan.
    • Conducting desk research and synthesizing data from SR2S pilots, surveys, and participatory workshops with children, parents, and teachers.
    • Assisting in the design and facilitation of child-friendly participatory methods (e.g., mapping, drawing, storytelling) to capture children’s perspectives on mobility.
    • Drafting policy and strategy elements including vision, goals, and recommended actions for child-centered active mobility.
    • Preparing reports, knowledge products, and visual materials (maps, infographics, briefs) to communicate findings to Nairobi City County and partners.
    • Supporting coordination with Nairobi City County officials, schools, and partner organizations to align the strategy with local priorities.
    • Contributing to documentation of lessons learned for potential replication in other African cities.
    • Any other tasks assigned related to the team’s portfolio

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent),
    • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    • Preferred areas of study: Urban planning/design, Architecture, Data Science; Environmental Science, Innovation Management; Computer Science, Urban Geography or another field deemed relevant to the subject areas covered by the Programme for the purpose of this internship.
    • In addition, successful applicants are expected to have demonstrated ability in one or more areas listed below: Sound knowledge and understanding of active mobility concepts, active mobility planning, road safety, street design principles and child-centered mobility approaches is required.
    • Familiarity with participatory methods for data collection (e.g. surveys, mapping, workshops, storytelling tools) is required.
    • Strong writing and analytical skills, with the ability to prepare concise and engaging reports and policy recommendations is required.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with local authorities, schools, and communities, demonstrating initiative and attention to detail is required.

    Programme Management Officer, Audit, Oversight and Internal Control Unit, P4

    Responsibilities

    • Coordinates as UN-Habitat's focal point for audits and organizational risk management audits /special reviews with respect to large and complex operations in UN-Habitat.
    • Conduct risk-based reviews of programmes and projects in accordance with the UN Risk management framework in close cooperation with UN-Habitat Senior Management.
    • Supervises and coach staff in the Unit throughout the period with the view to ensuring conformity, client oriented effective and efficient support and guidance to other divisions.
    • Empowers junior staff to actively participate in the management of the audit/review.
    • Documents, evaluates and test systems and controls to determine their adequacy and effectiveness, ensuring (i) compliance with policies and procedures, (ii) accomplishment of management's objectives, (iii) reliability and integrity of information, (iv) economical use of resources, and (v) safeguarding of assets.
    • Reviews and discusses OIOS and BOA findings, agrees on recommendations and timelines for corrective action with responsible officers of operations audited, and monitors the implementation status of agreed recommendations.
    • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
    • Prepares presentations, using available technology tools (e.g., PowerPoint)
    • Monitors the status of audit recommendations
    • Appraises adequacy of follow-up action taken on audit findings and recommendations
    • Maintains and updates audit programs
    • Identifies training needs, develops training programs and materials, and conducts workshops with respect to internal controls and risk management.

    • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in analyzing audit reports, applying financial control and reporting procedures is required.
    • Experience in overseeing services provided to or in field locations of the United Nations or a comparable international organization is desirable.
    • Experience in drafting data-based reports and preparing policies/guidance documents including standard operating procedures is desirable.
    • Two (2) years or more experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

    Programme Management Officer, Human Settlements, P4

    • Designs and co-ordinates normative aspects including research and monitoring activities related to enabling housing policies and strategies with particular focus on slum prevention and upgrading, through:
    • In relation to the Strategic Plan and other relevant frameworks, monitoring progress in the development of enabling policies, approaches and tools globally and exploring innovative approaches to address in particular housing targets, including informal and slum housing;
    • Reviewing and assessing developments in the shelter field globally and on-going research activities particularly regarding slum upgrading and prevention to develop pro-poor strategies;
    • Updating and developing documentation on relevant subjects such as policy and implementation guidelines, standards, tool kits and strategy papers; 
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Education

    • Advanced university degree (Master degree or equivalent) in architecture, engineering or urban/regional planning, with focus on issues related to shelter development, slum upgrading and enabling housing policies in Developing Countries is required.
    • A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two (2) years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience, including at least six years at the international level, with normative work on low-income slum upgrading and housing policies and programmes is required. Experience in field research in the broad field of housing and urban development, including slums, informal settlements is required.
    • Publications –including co-authoring- in one of the following themes: housing and/ or land right, slum upgrading, building materials and technology is desirable.
    • Experience in projects on slum upgrading in Asia, Africa or Latin America is desirable.
    • Experience making presentations on behalf of an organization at international/national meetings is desirable. Experience in developing and/or implementing international sustainable development programmes involving donor community, clients and civil society groups is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
