    Surgical Technician, Outreach Clinic Roysambu

    The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi Outreach Division is a rapidly growing network of 50 medical centers spread over East Africa. These medical centers feature three to five consulting rooms with a practice that is home to qualified medical officers, highly-experienced nurses and constant reception cover.     Applications are invited from qualified candidates for the above position based in Nairobi Kenya. The position holder will report to the Supervisor Roysambu Clinic.

    Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for gathering, checking and opening supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure
    • Sets up the sterile back table and mayo stand with instruments supplies and medications / solutions needed for the procedure and passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure
    • Performs initial surgical count with the circulating nurse
    • Assists the scrubbed team members with gowning and gloving
    • Assists with draping the patient to establish a sterile field
    • Secures sterile cords, tubing’s and other accessories
    • Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedure
    • Holds retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon

    Operating Theatre Nurse, Outreach Clinic Roysambu

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure complete pre-op assessment including the surgical checklist, nursing documentation and physician’s assessment
    • Receive the patient prior to surgery, gets report from the accompanying nurse and performs pre-op checklist.
    • Circulate and assist as needed for minor surgeries under supervision
    • Ensure effective recovery of stable patients post any form of anaesthesia.
    • Assists with intubation and extubation of patient in the Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and if required in the Operating Room (OR)

    Oncology Nurse, Outreach Clinic Roysambu

    Responsibilities:

    • Assess patients for chemotherapy to ensure their physical condition and blood parameters are satisfactory to safely receive treatment according to treatment protocols / regimes.
    • Administer intravenous and oral chemotherapy, and safely dispose of Chemo contaminated material in accordance with Hospital Safety Guidelines
    • Provide information regarding treatment and chemo side effects to ensure each patient is prepared for their specific treatment and elicit informed consent
    • Provide one to one and telephone advice to patients and their families regarding treatment side effects and management of side effects to ensure each patient receives care which is specific and appropriate to their needs
    • Assess patient’s readiness for radiotherapy, through history taking and physical examination.
    • Closely monitor patients undergoing Chemotherapy and other treatments, be able to identify reactions/complications, communicate the reactions/ complications to the physician and participate in management of the same
    • Recognize and provide psychological and emotional support to patients and their families, and be able to refer to counsellors when appropriate
    • Observe infection control guidelines while caring for central venous lines, and be able to advise patients about care of those lines in the home setting

    The successful candidate will work directly with Physicians, Residents, Students, Nurses, and ancillary departments to coordinate, compile, and deploy content and workflows for the EHR.  He/she may be instructed to lead a clinical workgroup, that would be responsible for all clinically relevant EHR build and settings.  He/she will enter and keep updated the Order Sets using Elsevier’s Content Management Software (CMS).  Under the direction of the CMIO and/or Lead EHR Physician (as assigned), he/she will work with IT build teams to map out future state workflows in the EHR.  The Nurse Informaticist may be assigned to specific clinical areas, based on their level of training and experience.  He/she will be trained as an EHR “SuperUser” to participate in system testing, and provide direct end-user training, Go-Live support, and post-live optimization efforts. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Supports Nurses, Physicians, and ancillary staff by providing continuous support, troubleshooting, and identifying opportunities for clinical information system improvements.
    • Promotes future and present system functionality by identifying and testing the clinical information systems
    • Identifies clinical practice workflow and process issues, concerns and works with leadership to define system and process requirements that will optimize system performance and technology utilization by clinical practitioners
    • Serve as a skilled clinical resource in support of non-clinical team members and train end-users on how to use the E-HR
    • Provide elbow level Go-Live support to clinicians
    • Assist in methodology and content development related to various clinical and related non-clinical domains

    Clinical Practice Educator, Surgical Ward

    • Leads the team in development, implementation and monitoring of unit based clinical policies and procedures
