Responsibilities:
- Responsible for gathering, checking and opening supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure
- Sets up the sterile back table and mayo stand with instruments supplies and medications / solutions needed for the procedure and passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure
- Performs initial surgical count with the circulating nurse
- Assists the scrubbed team members with gowning and gloving
- Assists with draping the patient to establish a sterile field
- Secures sterile cords, tubing’s and other accessories
- Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedure
- Holds retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon
- Coordinates the camera or endoscopic instruments as directed by the surgeon

- Ensure complete pre-op assessment including the surgical checklist, nursing documentation and physician’s assessment

- Assess patients for chemotherapy to ensure their physical condition and blood parameters are satisfactory to safely receive treatment according to treatment protocols / regimes.
- Administer intravenous and oral chemotherapy, and safely dispose of Chemo contaminated material in accordance with Hospital Safety Guidelines
- Provide information regarding treatment and chemo side effects to ensure each patient is prepared for their specific treatment and elicit informed consent
- Provide one to one and telephone advice to patients and their families regarding treatment side effects and management of side effects to ensure each patient receives care which is specific and appropriate to their needs
- Assess patient’s readiness for radiotherapy, through history taking and physical examination.
