    Reforms & Accountability Officer – Reforms & Accountability Division

    (REF: KNCHR/ADM/RAP/01/2022)

    Description of key duties

    1. Assist in the implementation of systems and programmes as per the strategic goal of the R&A Division to ensure reforms in both private and public agencies
    2.  Assist the Divisional focal points to  implement various activities towards institutional reforms, advocacy, research and reporting on sectors such as security, judiciary, political accountability, migration, transitional justice and prisons sectors and ensure the protection of human rights  for vulnerable groups such as intersex and migrants in Kenya as per the mandate of the commission.
    3. Assist in planning meetings and workshops to promote public awareness of human rights to ensure protection of those rights as per the mandate of the commission.
    4.  Supporting the drafting and compilation of divisional reports minutes and concept note on divisional work guided by the Divisional team and supervisor.
    5. Attends and represent the commission at working level meetings with civil society and other partners to facilitate reforms in private and public agencies as per the mandate of the commission.
    6. Facilitates logistic for Divisions meetings.
    7. Compiles the activity requests for activity implementation approval.
    8. Supports the implementation of Division’s thematic projects.
    9. Support the implementation of activities in any prevention of torture, migration and human rights and intersex persons’ rights mainstreaming.
    10. Contribute to the developing of the annual work plan and divisional reports and any other assigned work of the Division.

    Skills, Experience and Minimum Qualifications

    1. Bachelor’s degree in social Sciences  or related disciplines from a recognized university
    2. At least 1 year of relevant service in a comparable position from a reputable organization
    3. Advocacy and lobbying skills
    4. Knowledge on International Human Rights Instruments
    5.  Possess great report writing skills
    6. Computer literacy
    7. Knowledge on human rights instruments and reforms areas in the mentioned sectors.
    8. Great  inter personal, communication, analytical and research skills

    Regional Services Officer

    (REF:  KNCHR/ADM/RO/01/2022)

    Operational Responsibilities:

    1. Undertake client screening  and complaints handling for victims seeking redress for human rights violations to facilitate the justice process and seek favorable outcomes for them
    2. Refer complaints that fall outside the mandate of the Commission to appropriate agencies for resolution
    3. Prepare reports on complaints received and the remedial action taken by the Commission
    4. Promote proactive resolution of complaints on human rights violations to avoid recurrence of similar situation from arising. This includes the application of ADR mechanisms.
    5. Undertake investigations on human rights violations to ensure that the complaints are resolved promptly as per the mandate of the Commission
    6. Organize, plan and implement programme activities such as human rights clinics, radio talk shows and public forums to create awareness amongst members of the public
    7. Assist in preparing training content and facilitating trainings for civil society organizations, state actors and other stakeholders
    8. Assist in monitoring compliance with human rights standards including in prisons and other detention facilities.
    9. Assist in the preparation of quarterly,  bi-annual and annual plans and activity reports
    10. Assist in the management and enhancement of partnerships with human rights actors in the region in order to enhance the Commission’s effectiveness.
    11. Represent the Commission in various meetings and forums organized by the Commission’s partners and whose agenda touch on the Commission’s mandate.

    Skills, Experience and Minimum Qualifications

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, law or an equivalent from a recognized university
    2. Be admitted as an  Advocate of the High Court of Kenya (for lawyers)
    3. At least 1 year of relevant service in a comparable position from a reputable organization
    4. Good understanding of human rights and other relevant laws
    5. Good research skills.
    6. Good communication, listening and client management skills.
    7. Computer literacy
