    Temporary Grade 3-6 Kiswahili Apprentice Teacher

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    You will be responsible for delivering an exceptional 21st Century learning experience for our students. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of an innovative network of schools that is developing generations of innovators and leaders who will shape the African Century.

    You will also:

    • Live the Nova Pioneer values and beliefs
    • Actively engage with staff, students, and parents between 7am and 5pm daily
    • Work collaboratively with the resident teacher to deliver impactful and engaging enquiry-based lessons
    • With the resident teacher, co-create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students, and maintain an organized and focused learning environment
    • Fully participate in opportunities for professional growth including daily team meetings and reflections, weekly professional development meetings, instructional coaching, and organisation wide learning and reflection
    • Work collaboratively with the resident teacher to conduct ongoing assessment of student progress. Use assessment data to adjust instructional content and delivery techniques accordingly
    • Infuse joy and passion for learning into lessons so that students are excited about and invested in their academic excellence
    • Help to set and communicate rigorous and ambitious goals for all students and provide student feedback so they internalize it
    • Attend weekly feedback meetings with resident teachers and Deans to enhance teaching practices
    • Participate in a variety of collaborative teams and committees, fulfill supervision duties as assigned including some morning, evening and weekend events
    • Coordinate, plan and lead an after school co-curricular activity for a variety of ages
    • Plan, implement and supervise the curriculum for the class in accordance with school policies and philosophy.
    • Work with the resident teacher as a team, being respectful of each person’s contributions and style. Going directly to the co-worker involved (rather than another co-worker) when concerns or conflicts surface.

    Teaching

    • Leads ~20-30% (1-3) core content lessons. When not leading a lesson, supervises students
    • Manages student behavior. Participates in following-up with persistent misbehaviors
    • Execute necessary accommodations and modifications for the growth and success of all students
    • Provide feedback to the curriculum design team about lessons you teach and the overall structure of a unit to ensure revisions are made

    Administration

    • Keep classroom neat and tidy
    • With the resident teacher, prepare materials for lessons
    • Parent communication in collaboration with the resident teacher
    • Attend parent conferences
    • Rotation duty (arrival, lunch, playtime and dismissal)
    • Document student’s work
    • Display student’s  work

     ABOUT YOU

    Skills and Qualifications required:

    • You have a TSC certificate
    • A relevant degree in Education/ P1 Diploma/ P1 Certificate
    • You have a minimum of 1-2 years teaching experience.
    • You have good working skills with technology such as Word, Powerpoint and Excel
    • You are a great communicator. You are able to provide clear and effective written and verbal communication.
    • You are flexible and open to change - you handle uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity well.
    • You are a problem solver - you are proactive in identifying issues and address these thoroughly by making an effort to find appropriate solutions.

    Assistant School Nurse (Athi River School)

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    Key responsibilities for the role include:

    • Provide first aid and care to students with acute and/or chronic health conditions.
    • Assess students presenting with illnesses, injuries or other health concerns and determine appropriate care, monitoring or referral.
    • Coordinate referrals to the nearest/preferred health facilities and follow up where necessary to support continuity of care.
    • Perform health screenings to detect health issues and make appropriate referrals and follow-ups.
    • Lead wellness/health-related initiatives to provide health education to students, staff and parents.
    • Oversee infection control measures within the school.
    • Monitor and support the management of communicable diseases and outbreaks in collaboration with School Leadership and relevant health facilities/authorities.
    • Supervise and/or administer medications brought to school by students in accordance with school policy and appropriate medical instructions.
    • Make courtesy follow-up calls to parents/guardians of children absent from school due to illness.
    • Follow up on significant illnesses, injuries and medical referrals to support students’ recovery and appropriate return to school.
    • Develop and maintain individual healthcare plans for students with chronic, significant or complex medical conditions, in collaboration with parents/guardians and healthcare providers.
    • Support appropriate return-to-school arrangements following significant illness, injury or hospitalisation.
    • Liaise with the medical staff at the nearest private hospital and update the school’s hospital referral list.
    • Create and manage confidential medical incident documents and student health records.
    • Collect and record data daily on illnesses and injuries, flag multiple or recurring occurrences, identify trends and escalate significant concerns to School Leadership with recommendations on how to address the cases and prevent future occurrences.
    • Collect and maintain student allergy information and follow up on the same, ensuring relevant emergency information is communicated appropriately to authorised staff.
    • Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents/guardians and other stakeholders (e.g., clinicians and paramedics) on matters related to health and wellness.
    • Promptly escalate serious, recurring or high-risk medical concerns and injuries to the appropriate School Leadership members, with recommendations for appropriate action and follow-up.
    • Identify and appropriately escalate health-related safeguarding concerns in accordance with the school’s Child Protection and Safeguarding policies.
    • Support medical emergency preparedness and response within the school, including ensuring that first-aid kits and emergency medical supplies are adequately stocked, accessible and ready for use.
    • Provide basic first-aid and health-related guidance to staff, as appropriate, to strengthen the school’s capacity to respond to common student health needs.
    • Responsibly keep and manage an inventory of medical equipment and supplies, including monitoring stock levels and expiry dates and submitting timely requisitions for replenishment.
    • Maintain professional confidentiality and ensure student health information is handled and shared appropriately.

    ABOUT YOU

    Skills and Qualifications required:

    • You have a Diploma or Degree in Nursing with great people skills.
    • A professional, flexible and conscientious registered nurse with the ability to build a harmonious, energetic and cohesive relationship with students and co-workers.
    • Professional counseling skills with a proven track record will be an advantage.
    • You have 3-4 years’ experience as a registered nurse. Having worked in a school setting is desirable!
    • Ability to train students on basic health practices and standards 
    • Prior experience working as a pediatric nurse

    Playgroup - Grade 2 Resident Teachers (NP Eldoret Primary)

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    We are hiring Kiswahili Specialist Teachers to oversee the daily learning for our primary school students within a teaching team. You will be required to participate in, and lead where appropriate, extra-curricular programmes in the school and assist in planning and organizing of school events and functions (e.g. inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays,  culture days, Kiswahili competitions, and award evenings.) 

    You will also:

    • Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable.
    • Plan activities that meet the social, physical and emotional needs of the children.
    • Developing, reviewing and updating schemes of work and lesson plans in line with the school curriculum in partnership with the Curriculum Development Manager.
    • Setting assessments for subject areas/ topics when requested or called upon
    • Schedule stimulating and learning activities for the children
    • Prepare teaching aids to facilitate children learning
    • Devise games and activities, and also provides playing equipment, and ensure the playing facilities and equipment are clean and safe
    • Supervise the children as they learn and play
    • Observe and evaluate each child’s progress and provide a written report to the Principal, other school leaders and parents.
    • Monitor and keep record/ reports of the children’s progress and development
    • Assimilate arriving children to the school environment by greeting them, helping them remove outerwear, and selecting activities of interest to them.
    • Establish and enforce rules for behavior, and policies and procedures to maintain order among students.
    • Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guests, or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
    • Assist in bus loading and unloading
    • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
    • Any other duties as assigned by your Manager
