Underwriting Officer at Metropolitan Cannon Insurance Ltd

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Reporting to the Underwriting Manager – The Underwriting Officer will evaluate, review and analyze Insurance risk against set criteria in order to determine acceptance terms, compliance, processing and administration.

PRIMARY Duties & Responsibilities

1. Assess, manage and rate all risks to ensure acceptance and retention of quality business.
2. Prepare quotations.
3. Enforce the credit control policy and effect cancellation when necessary.
4. Enforce TATs in the provision of services including issuance of policy documents.
5. Communicate effectively to relevant parties on confirmation of policy documentation receipt, endorsements etc.
6. Preparation and timely dispatch of renewal notices and follow up on the same to ensure retention.
7. Approve work tickets, debits, endorsements etc. 
8. Maintain a record of identified risks and discuss preventive measures with the Manager.
9. Continuously review the performance of assigned accounts and all products and make necessary recommendations.
10. Prepare monthly and other adhoc performance reports.
11. Deliver on service level agreements.
12. Contribute to continuous innovation

Qualifications and Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree in insurance or related field
2. Full ACII/ IIK qualification
3. Over 5 years’ experience in a busy retail general business underwriting operation
4. Good understanding of general business insurance principles and practices in Kenya
