    Teacher of English and Literature

    The position

    The Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa is currently recruiting an IB Teacher with experience of teaching English and Literature. The Teacher will join an experienced team of IB educators in the English department. The Teacher of English will be responsible for effective delivery of lessons and raising the standards of student achievement in English, for monitoring, and supporting student progress as well as supervising Internal Assessment, Personal Project, and Extended Essay.

    The requirements

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
    • Must have a TSC Certificate or an internationally recognized teaching qualification or a BEd / MEd
    • Experienced in teaching English and Literature for at least 3 years.

    ICT Support Associate

    Role Summary

    The role of the ICT Support Associate is to offer Leve-1 ICT support and to assist with the implementation and maintenance of ICT infrastructure at the school.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Logging and resolution of ICT requests and escalating in a timely manner
    • Assist in the implementation and support of all ICT initiatives and information systems
    • Assist in the implementation of ICT policies and design of Standard Operation Procedures
    • Ensure timely installation, configuration, and maintenance of ICT hardware, software, and network equipment
    • Assist in the implementation of information security-related best practices for all ICT services available at AKES units in Kenya
    • Assist schools in identifying and quantifying ICT needs with guidance from central office IT
    • Maintain updated inventory records for ICT hardware, software, and network equipment within the cluster
    • Ensure regular updates to operating systems, anti-malware solutions, and other systems for all computers
    • Ensure preventive maintenance and service of ICT equipment on a quarterly basis
    • Ensure timely troubleshooting and repair of faulty ICT equipment; liaise with respective departments and external service providers for resolution of technical issues
    • Provide technical training to the users of ICT services as and when required

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Diploma in ICT, relevant Degree in IT an added advantage
    • Relevant ICT Certifications are also an added advantage
    • Working knowledge of IT-based educational management programs and software
    • Certificate of Good Conduct
    • 2 years of experience in an ICT environment preferably in a learning institution.

    Head Teacher, Aga Khan Academy Nairobi Senior School

    Position Summary

    The Head Teacher will be responsible for the pedagogical and administrative leadership and management of the senior academy and will support the school’s positioning as an IB World School of excellence, working towards making it an integral part of the AKAN one school vision. S/he will drive the academic and extra-curricular programmes at the school, provide leadership and oversee day-to-day operations of the school.

    Key Responsibilities

    • In consultation with the AKESK Leadership team, the Head Teacher will develop annual objectives, school development and improvement plan and quality indicators that ensure the delivery of high-quality education leading to strong student performance
    • Monitor school, staff and student performance conduct a school self-evaluation and provide senior leaders with regular reports on progress achieved against strategic and operational goals
    • Strengthen the implementation, continued performance and success of the IB curriculum and monitor the MYP action plan, enabling the school to become a model school in the implementation of this curriculum
    • Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to meet and maintain authorization requirements for the IBO.  Ensure systems are in place for tracking individual students and their progress through the school, and identify areas where students need additional support to ensure “no child is left behind”
    • Build a high-performing team, committed to achieving the vision of the school
    • Manage the budget, resources and safeguard the assets of the school, and ensure that all school funds are appropriately allocated and administered as specified in the school’s financial plan

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Education/A post-graduate degree in Education from an accredited university, with adequate qualifications in IB Teaching
    • A minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in international curriculum schools, of which, at least 5 years should be within an IB school MYP/DP leadership role
    • Good understanding of, and experience in, curriculum management, design, implementation and evaluation
    • Understanding of 21st Century education practices, strategies for raising students’ achievement and effective frameworks for school improvement planning, implementation and self-evaluation
    • Experience in the developing world and Africa are highly desirable
    • Candidates currently in Kenya will require TSC registration

    PYP PHE Teacher

    The position

    The Aga Khan Academy, Kenya is hiring a PHE Teacher who can deliver high quality PYP instruction in order to develop young people’s understanding of healthy lifestyle and develop their physical skills. The candidate should ideally have a strong sporting background and experience of coaching teams.

    Duties:

    • Effective delivery of PHE lessons as per the course requirement
    • Plan coordinated PHE scope and sequence, which articulates the programme and ensures that it is age appropriate by referencing against external benchmarks.
    • Coach one or more teams or helping with Contributing to the development of enrichment and residential experiences for students.
    • Informing parents and guardians about students’ progress.
    • Design engaging learning and assessment activities that develop deep understanding.
    • Plan collaboratively with colleagues to design the PYP units that effectively deliver the programmes
    • Monitor and track student progress.
    • Contribute to the development of enrichment / co-curricular and experiential activities.
    • Participate in the  service-learning experiences for students.

    The requirements

    • A Bachelor of Education or bachelor’s degree with a teaching qualification.
    • Must have a TSC Certificate or an internationally recognized teaching qualification or a BEd / MEd
    • At least 3 years’ experience teaching in IB PYP Physical Health Education
    • Experience of working in a culturally diverse environment.
    • High level of competitive sport
