    Specialist: Health & Safety

    Role Outline

    • The SHEQ Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring DHL safety and environmental programs that comply with legal requirements and reduce the risk of accidents and incidents within the transport logistics operation. The role includes the promotion of a safe work environment, ensuring operational compliance with health and safety regulations, and maintaining quality standards across all activities.

    Key areas of responsibility include:

    • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees, especially those involved with fleet operations.
    • Assist with appointments of Health and Safety Reps. Ongoing training and communication to facilitate a safe, hygienic, and healthy work environment.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement preventative measures.
    • Coordinate and conduct training sessions on safety practices, emergency response, and accident prevention for all staff.
    • Investigate accidents or incidents to determine causes and propose changes to prevent future occurrences.
    • Monitor operations to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
    • Implement programs to reduce waste and pollution, including managing emissions and proper disposal of hazardous materials.
    • Develop and oversee environmental impact assessments for new projects or changes to existing operations.
    • Ensure that all operational processes meet both internal and external standards and regulations.
    • Implement quality control measures to maintain high service standards and customer satisfaction.
    • Assist Risk Manager if and when required.
    • Enforce compliance to statutory regulations.
    • To assist with the induction and training of all new employees.
    • To promote a positive health and safety culture
    • Day to Day Health and Safety issues. Deliver toolbox talks.
    • Monitoring of SHEQ statistics
    • Recording of PPE issues and monitoring their use
    • All incidents/accident reported and recorded in accordance with the company policy and legislation.
    • Proactive identification of all risks and appropriate action implemented immediately. All relevant parties informed.
    • KPI's are being met.
    • Participation on stock take preparation, planning and physical stock count.
    • Compliance to Good Distribution Practice Guidelines, as well as MCC and SAPC requirements.
    • Health and Safety Management.
    • Monitor and report on compliance with quality standards.
    • Stay updated with the latest industry regulations and standards related to safety, health, and environmental practices.
    • Ensure all permits, licenses, and certifications are up to date.
    • Liaise with regulatory bodies and handle inspections and audits by external authorities.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Matric
    • Health and Safety Qualification
    • Completed SAMTRAC Qualification
    • 3 years practical Health & Safety experience
    • Code 8 driver's license

    Heavy Goods Vehicle Drivers

    About the role Key duties and responsibilities

    • Ensure safe vehicle turnaround time/transit time to various delivery destinations is met.
    • Professionally representing DSC to customers.
    • Adhere to all DSC Health and safety rules and regulations and those of our clients.
    • Ensure safe vehicle turnaround time/transit time to various delivery destinations is met.
    •  Responsible for the vehicle safety and standard quality requirements, including all legal requirements by law.
    • Ensure that the vehicle in use is in good condition for delivery and that any anomaly is reported in good time for corrective measures.
    • Ensure you are familiar with the standard operating procedures for loading and offloading at the distribution centre you have been assigned and to each distributor/customer you deliver to. This includes ensuring all documentation related to deliveries and from deliveries are filled and signed where necessary and returned to the appropriate offices.
    • Timely reporting of all potential risks, near misses, breakdowns, and accidents to your immediate supervisors.
    • Complete routine vehicle checks and ensure that the vehicle achieves the set target of fuel consumption (Km/L).

    About you

    •  3+ years’ experience in Driving Heavy Commercial vehicles.
    •  O-level school certificate.
    •  Certificate in mechanics.
    •  HGV/Artic driving license/Trailer or Truck Accredited.
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Well-organized individual and results oriented.
