    Private Awards Manager

    WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

    The Private Awards Manager plays a critical role in the Private Awards Shared Services Team which is a key component of the Private Awards Center of Excellence (“PACE”).  The establishment of the Shared Services is to support the advancement of TNC’s goals:  sharpening our focus, strengthening our culture, and driving operational excellence.  This role will have the opportunity to support organization-wide operational excellence through optimization of people, processes, systems, and compliance via performing and delivering core finance services/workstreams in Private Awards administration.  PACE sits within the central Finance Business Unit (BU), which will allow for more standardized processes, creation of more efficiencies and synergy across the core finance services/workstreams.

    Specifically, the Private Awards Manager will drive and execute results in the Shared Services Team of PACE, including overseeing the finance and/or accounting activities of a team of Private Award Specialists.  The role will partner with PACE leadership and liaise with BU Finance Leaders to provide guidance and finance support for “Private Awards” which are a subset of TNC’s contribution revenue, from private donors.

    Position location is flexible within the Eastern Hemisphere, in countries where TNC may hire staff, with a preference for Australia, Tanzania or Kenya.

    The Private Awards Manager is responsible for managing the activities and personnel for a team of Private Award Specialists.  They will supervise Private Award Specialists in performing specialized accounting services as well as providing accounting services themselves. Generally responsible for the management, maintenance and reporting of financial data and/or the monitoring of management controls and processes to ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures, relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, and financial/management best practice. They will liaise with BU Finance Leadership, share knowledge with other members of PACE and will supervise and monitor workloads for their team.  They act as a Subject Matter Expert on Private Awards.

    RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

    • Acts independently and exercises independent judgment to identify and solve complex problems.
    • Manages functional activity towards program's strategic goals.
    • Works toward meeting the strategic priorities of the program by developing and coordinating tactics for approved plans, completing and/or overseeing day-to-day tasks.   
    • Ensures the programmatic work is collaborative and well-integrated across organization.
    • Manage multiple projects, directing work of staff, managing budget, setting deadlines, and ensuring accountability.
    • Supervise one or more professional staff.
    • Ensures programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
    • Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures.  
    • Reports to leadership on activities.
    • Works collaboratively with BU Finance Leadership and towards building effective relationships.

    • Experience monitoring for and ensuring compliance with organizational policy, applicable law and regulation, and finance/accounting/management best practice.
    • Ability to work in partnership with others in a collaborative or advisory role.
    • Expert knowledge of GAAP and/or relevant regulatory framework.
    • Experience, coursework or other training with U.S. Federal Uniform Guidance, multilateral and international government regulations, and standard contract clauses, as applicable.
    • Experience evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of management controls; interpreting guidelines and analyzing factual information to adapt or modify processes as needed.
    • Ability to resolve complex issues independently within program area.
    • Experience acting as a resource to others to solve problems.
    • Certified Public Accountant or equivalent certification.
    • Service orientation and ability to effectively communicate using a variety of media (e.g., email, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, phone) to overcome barriers such as remote work locations, differences in language and time zones, and technology limitations.
    • Be willing to work outside normal business hours as needed.
    • Be willing to travel as needed.

    WHAT YOU'LL BRING

    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
    • Experience with GAAP, IFRS and fund accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
    • Experience with financial interpretation and analysis.
    • Technical experience with spreadsheet programs, general ledger reports and financial management tools.
    • Experience working with teams across organization.
    • Experience recruiting, supervising, and developing staff.
    • Professional proficiency/fluency in English (written and oral).

    Staff Accountant

    WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

    The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in our newly implemented Journal Entry Shared Services Team which is a key component of the Accounting Center of Excellence (“ACE”). The establishment of the Shared Services is to support the advancement of TNCs goals: sharpening our focus, strengthening our culture, and driving operational excellence. This role will have the opportunity to support organization wide operational excellence through optimization of people, processes, systems, and compliance via performing and delivering core finance services/workstreams in accounting. ACE sits within the central Finance Business Unit (BU), which will allow for more standardized processes, creation of more efficiencies and synergy across the core finance services/workstreams.

    Specifically, the Staff Accountant will execute results in the new Shared Services Team of ACE, by providing specialized accounting services at the business unit level. The role will partner with ACE leadership and liaise with BU finance staff to provide guidance and financial support and process journal entries for business units.

    This is a full-time, fully remote position that is open to all locations where TNC is able to hire staff, but with specific preference to local nationals in the Asia-Pacific Region (Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Solomon Islands. Indonesia-based applicants will be processed through our local partner), Africa (Angola, Gabon, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia), and Europe (Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom). 

    The Staff Accountant provides specialized services in processing journal entries, accounting or similar financial activities for a department or business unit. They are an expert in their area of specialization. They administer and maintain finance/accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures and best practices in financial management. The Staff Accountant provides assistance to staff in their specialty area. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

    • Reviews and registers journal entries, interprets results of transactions and communicates necessary actions needed to comply with accounting standards and business procedures.
    • Ensures TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met. 
    • Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support related to relevant field.
