    Curriculum Advisors

    Key purpose of the job is to support professional development of Curriculum Advisors leading to increased capacity of Curriculum Advisors and Heads of Department to support primary grade teachers in language and literacy in African Home Languages as well as English as a First Additional Language. District officials will be enrolled in training and linked to Professional Learning Committees (PLCs). Training will engage District Chief Education Specialists (DCES), Curriculum Advisors (CAs) and Heads of Departments (HODs).

    Qualifications For Curriculum Advisors Job

    Successful candidates are likely to have the following skills, knowledge and experience:

    • An Education degree or Post-Graduate certificate of Education
    • Extensive curriculum design, development, and implementation experience, preferably with a Ministry of Education
    • More than 6 years of experience in school leadership and curriculum advisory role
    • Fluent English speaker
    • A self-starter with the flexibility and adaptability to work in a high-pressure demanding environment
    • Good written skills in English
    • Knowledge and experience in capacity building, training and facilitation
    • Key qualities of relationship-building, adaptability and resilience

    Education Specialist

    VSO is currently implementing the Child Friendly Schools Project in various primary schools in Malawi. The project is thus looking for an education specialist who will be able to train and support lectures, teachers and school administrators in child-friendly teaching and learning methodologies, mainstream DET approach into their teaching as well as the overall school activities. This role is based in Malawi.

    Qualifications For Education Specialists Job

    • At least 5 years’ experience working in the education sector
    • Teaching and classroom management experience especially in the early grades (first and second year of primary school)
    • Experience in using different and innovative approaches to improve learning outcomes.
    • Experience in the use of data/research outcomes to make and implement initiatives that would enhance learning.
    • Ability to self-manage, set targets and self-monitor would also be ideal.
    • Teacher training, capacity building and monitoring and evaluation experience.
    • Experience in using technology in education would also be a plus.

    School Management Advisors

    Advisors Job Purpose

    • To support the development of school leadership and management at school levels to significantly increase capacity of principals and deputy principals to support primary grade teachers in language and literacy in African Home Languages as well as English as a First Additional Language.
    • The success of this project will pivot around the ability of this project to improve school leadership given the strong evidence that equates the quality of leadership to school improvement and learning.
    • To create an environment that will support the improvement of language teaching and learning, school leadership has to address in-classroom factors, such as teaching and resources; in-school factors, such as leadership and management; and out-of-school factors, such as parental involvement and socio-economic circumstances.

    Qualifications For Advisors Job

    Successful candidates are likely to have the following skills, knowledge and experience:

    • An Education degree or Post-Graduate certificate in Education
    • At least 6 years’ experience of school leadership or education management focused on improving language learning outcomes and strengthening school management

    Technical Vocational Training Advisor/ Specialist

    Training Advisor Job Purpose

    • As part of a 3 year GIZ funded livelihoods project – Skills and Capacity for Organisational (VTI) Productivity and Employment (SCOPE): assess the needs and build the operational, management and governance capacity of staff, management and board members of the vocational training institute so they have the leadership, policies and practices to support the delivery of quality, market relevant, internationally recognised (e.g. City and Guilds) and industry standards of skills, training and services; and ensure the local population has increased preparedness for employment in the oil and gas and related sectors.
    • This role will be based in Kasese Uganda.

    Qualifications For Training Advisor Job

    Essential:

    • A degree relevant field
    • 5+ years of relevant experience
    • Experience in supporting organisations to develop and implement to strategic and business plans
    • Experience of developing and putting into practice HR, procurement and finance policies and procedures
    • Experience of Change Management
    • Familiarity with governance practise
    • Proven coaching and mentoring skills
    • Experience of working with/training low capacity teams
    • Effective communications skills (including IT skills and report writing)

    Desirable:

    • Experience within vocational training organisations especially those offering C&G and/or NVQ
    • Experience of conducting and rolling out organisational capacity assessments
    • Experience of delivering Training of Trainers
    • Experience of working with/training low capacity teams/grass root organisations
    • Prior experience of working in developing countries in Africa, in an NGO
    • Motorbike experience or willingness to learn

    Welding & Fabrication Advisor

    Welding & Fabrication Advisor Job Purpose

    • The Welding and Fabrication Adviser will work with Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) teachers to provide advice, coaching and where possible support other workshops in welding and fabrication related operations in Lindi with occasional travel to Mtwara, Tanzania.

    Professional qualifications and experience:

    Essential:

    • Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Welding and fabrication)
    • Diploma in Vocational training or QTS certification
    • Have at least three years in welding maintenance department of a factory or an establishment such as a hospital, public utility company or office building
    • Have at least two years’ experience in practical vocational training

    Desirable:

    • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
    • Experience of working in a developing country
    • Experience of working in Low resource settings
    • Preference will be given to applicants with a background in industrial and/or vocational training experience and international qualifications like City and Guilds or equivalent.
