    National UNV ICT Officer

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Under the direct supervision of the Senior Regional ICT Officer the national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks

    • Monitor and maintain the LAN, Network servers, Routers, printer, LAN points and switches, patch panels, access points to prevent faults occurring.
    • Provide technical user support services and training in UNHCR applications, including email upgrade and software when instructed.
    • Ensure that information problem recovery is done as quickly as possible by making regular system back-ups.
    • Maintain the inventory of ICT equipment and keep track of movements of ICT equipment.
    • Installing and commissioning VSAT, Radio and/or Field LAN and messaging systems.
    • Assist in the maintenance of accurate records of users and usage of the Network.
    • Provide technical support to UNHCR’s implementing partners.
    • Carry out computer and network hardware maintenance.
    • Train UNHCR staff on email system, utilization of VHF handhelds, telephone system.
    • Perform any other duty as required

    If required the incumbent will also

    • Ensure that the client’s databases are up to date by identifying and keeping what is relevant and accurate in an accessible manner.
    • Generate statistical reports as required by the Management for improved decision making.
    • Undertake basic analysis/interpretation of data and draw conclusion or identify patterns/trends, which can assist the work of the Office.
    • Develop forms and tools for data collection and analysis

    Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to

    • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);
    • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
    • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
    • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
    • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
    • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

    Results/Expected Output

    • The network (LAN) is properly maintained.
    • ICT incidents are resolved in a timely and efficient manner
    • User trainings in UNHCR applications/system.
    • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed

    • Professional work ethic with good time management ability, should be able to work independently under stablished procedures.

    Required Skills and Experience

    • A university degree in Information Technology, computer applications or a related field
    • Previous relevant experience in the ICT field especially infrastructure support.
    • Fluency in English with clear writing abilities.

    Knowledge Networks Assistant UNV

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Under the direct supervision of the Head, Knowledge Networks and library Services Unitthe national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks

    • Support co-ordination, implementation and follow up of key science outreach products
    • Assist in the development of relevant ‘Knowledge and outreach’ project documents under SP7
    • Carry out research, including data collection, data verification and data analysis
    • Maintain partner mailing lists and data bases
    • Act as alternate focal point for OARE and Research for Life partnership
    • Draft web features fpr posting on UNEP.ORG and UNEP Live

    Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to

    • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);
    • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
    • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
    • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;

    • The development of relevant ‘Knowlede ad outreach’ project documents under SP 7
    • Successful creation of relevant databases as required.
    • Completion of compilation of partner mailing lists
    • Undertsanding the background and history of OARE and Research for Life partnership, and completion of training and support systems as relevant.
    • Successful drafting and posting up of web features on UNEP.ORG and UNEP LiveA final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.

    Competencies

    • Computer Skills: Excellent computing and IT skills, with full competency of Microsoft applications, Adobe Acrobat, Web Design and data base applications

    Required Skills and Experience

    • A university Degree: Journalism and Communications, Knowledge Management, Environmental and/or Polictical Sciences, Economics
    • Language : English
