The Role
The Humanitarian Policy Specialist will lead on the development and implementation of Plan International’s policy analysis and approach within the Drought Response. This role has a challenging scope and to be successful the candidate must have substantial experience in emergency and development work with a demonstrated understanding of context, dilemmas, challenges and ways of working as well as a track record of policy work. The individual should be a natural networker and negotiator coupled with solid experience in influencing government, donors, UN bodies and Regional Bodies such as IGAD and the African Union (AU) etc. The position will report to the Regional Communications and Media Manager
The Person
The incumbent should possess good context analysis skills, a strategic thinker and be culturally sensitive in difficult and sometimes insecure environments, have excellent communication skills, both written and oral and fluency in English. Hold a university qualification in political science, international law, international development, communications or an equivalent qualification.
The Role
The Gender in Emergencies Specialist will work with response teams across the three countries, the CO gender specialists and the RO gender advisor to ensure all response programmes are gender aware, gender sensitive, and where required, are also gender transformative. Working with Emergency Response Managers who are responsible for providing strategic and operational oversight to emergency responses in respective countries, the gender in emergencies specialist will have the mandate to deliver on the objectives as per the terms of reference. The position will report to the regional Head of Disaster Risk Management.
The Person
The incumbent should have a demonstrable minimum of 7 years work experience in gender in emergency, have good communications and facilitation skills, excellent proposal review and writing, the ability to travel at a short notice as well as willing to spend 50% of the time in the three countries.
