    Student Intern: Industrial Safety & Environment

    Job Description

    The purpose of the Program is to provide an opportunity for university and college students to become familiar with the operations of Kenya Airways, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job training during vacations before resuming your studies.
    During the internship, students shall be placed in one of the departments or units of Kenya Airways and, to the extent possible, shall be given assignments relevant to their current studies. Before the end of the program, the interns must submit a brief report about their experience/ learning in Kenya Airways and provide ideas and suggestions that can help improve the Program in future years.

    Conditions of Internship

    Kenya Airways does not provide medical insurance cover for Interns. Those selected for internship will be required to submit proof of medical insurance while at Kenya Airways.
    Since the hiring for the Internship Program is done locally, Kenya Airways does not pay transportation costs whatsoever.
    Because Internship Program is addressed to students who are pursuing their degree programs or diploma programs, participation in the program will not extend beyond three (3) months.
    Documentation that will be required should you be selected for internship are:

    • Letter from learning institution requesting for internship and confirming that this is part of the course requirement
    • Original and copy of KCSE/GCSE Certificate
    • Certificate of Good Conduct
    • Insurance cover

    Qualification

    • To be eligible for the Kenya Airways Internship Program, you must be:
    • A citizen of Kenya A student pursuing an undergraduate degree/College diploma in an accredited university/college, who will continue his/her graduate studies or graduate right after the period of the internship. Preferably Bachelor of Science (With a bias in Safety & Environment).
    • Have a minimum grade of B (plus) in KCSE or equivalent O'level certification

    Systems Administrator: Enterprise Systems

    Job description

    To maintain and administrator IS infrastructure, which includes Data centres,servers, storage, systems software and data centre facilities (UPS, AC and firesuppression), in order to ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability of Kenya Airways business systems.
    The role has the responsibility to perform systems control, monitoring, evaluation, analysis and recommend areas of support improvements including recommendation of tools, minor systems infrastructure modifications and upgrades in order to improve efficiency, productivity and create value add to the IT services.
    The role has the responsibility for consultation to IS development section, Systems Administrators and the business to provide technical support to all IS Business application projects to deliver projects on time and within budget.

    • Provide service that meets the SLA agreements by resolving calls within 2 hours resolution time
    • Ensure the % of systems infrastructure availability is well above the SLA levels.
    • Install, configure as well as maintain storage and backup hardware inclusive of physical plus virtual tape libraries or drives along with disk storage targets.
    • Perform activities related to install, configure and managing SAN and NAS devices and fibre switches.
    • Administer Brocade and MDS FC switches as well as blade chassis FC devices.
    • Execute FC zoning for Test, development and production storage volumes.
    • Manage NetApp and EMC snapshot as well as recovery methods for storage volumes.
    • Execute across-site replication of critical production data.
    • Supervise volume replication overnight jobs and execute improvements.
    • Oversee IO performance of production along with development of databases LUNs.
    • Provide architecture as well as performance recommendations to DBAs and System Administrators
    • Conduct bottleneck evaluation to identify performance issues.
    • Ensure backup methods are in place as well as tested for FC LUNs.
    • Develop and maintain records for entire storage, servers, Server enclosures, Data center facilities as well as FC systems
    • Collaborate with DBA as well as System administrators to assure optimized storage usage.
    • Maintain data centre facilities including clean power systems, cooling systems, Fire suppression systems and environment monitoring systems.
    • Maintain DR infrastructure including storage, backup and servers.
    • Ensure process adherence, quality and improvement of operations in the data center environment.
    • Partner with existing support resources to ensure effective and efficient operations
    • Reviews and standardizes all recovery plans, including process and procedural standards to address routine, backup, redundancy and recovery architectures.
    • Manage backup infrastructure and improve the backup and recovery performance using latest applicable techniques.
    • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media or disk. Ensure tapes or media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
    • Provide trend analysis reports to the IS management team in order to support in decision making
    • Work closely with Problem Manager to identify trends and the impact to the business in order to identify root cause, and resolve problems within agreed SLA times
    • Work with the Business systems implementation team to ensure optimal hardware sizing to application in order to guarantee service availability and eliminate waste.
    • Install, Maintain and support systems software, including but not limited to Windows server software, Linux and Solaris
    • Maintain infrastructure security by installing hardware firmware as needed in order to ensure entire systems are secure and resilient.
    • Proactively manage and monitor capacity, performance, availability, integrity and security of the central storage and backup systems using appropriate reporting & monitoring tools.
    • Embrace team work to provide cross-functional support as needed, consulting with technical experts or vendor as necessary to solve difficult problems
    • Manage and coordinate Servers and IS infrastructure upgrades, modifications, and customizations with outside vendors, end-users, and IT resources

    Qualification

    • University Graduate in IT or Diploma with 3 years in IS infrastructure management
    • Certification in Unix/Solaris/Linux administration and/or MCITP
    • Training in Data Center management
    • Certification or Training in NAS and SAN
    • Good understanding & problem solving techniques in Sun Solaris/ Linux o/s and Microsoft Windows(2003/2008), Active Directory 2008 & Exchange 2007/2010
    • Experience in ITIL or MOF Service Delivery Framework (ITIL Certification is an added advantage).

    Systems Developer: Business Intelligence & Analytics

    Job description

    This Developer’s role will deal specifically with Oracle E-Business Suite and its related technologies and applications. A successful candidate must be proficient in developing, report creation, analysis and supporting enhancements to Oracle applications and their related integrations.
    A successful candidate should be able to work with functional business analysts, business process owners and other technical team members for a given requirement or process. Further, the candidate should be capable of executing requirement and design specification into development deliverables.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Analyze business requirements documents and scenarios for each Reporting,
      Integration, Customization, Extension object
    • Map technical processes, design layouts, validate functional specifications and create technical solution documents to address business needs for Reports,
      Interfaces, Customizations, Extensions and Workflows.
    • Perform customization and personalization of Oracle applications reports, interfaces, extensions and workflows to conform to business requirements.
    • Ensure high quality of software developed, meets schedule and satisfies detailed in functional specifications
    • Assists in troubleshooting issues and perform bug fixes.
    • Develop Oracle applications interfacing and integration while maintain documentation.
    • Create test plans, test data sets and perform testing to ensure all components of the developed systems meet specifications
    • Perform root cause analysis for recurring incidents, identify and implement optimal solutions, formalize test plans and implement troubleshooting procedures
    • Perform data modeling to analyze and specify data structures.
    • Support new and existing application development by creating modifications and enhancements
    • Support the execution of System Integration Tests (SITs) and the User Acceptance Test (UATs).
    • Adhere to the strong IT Governance and change control process for all system changes.
    • Execute system configuration for Finance, HCM, iProcurement and Oracle Purchasing modules of Oracle EBS as needed for any projects and enhancements
    • Design and develop integrations with other systems using SOA, ADF and Java

    Qualification

    • BSc in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Information science, Information Management, or Computer Science.
    • 2+ years Programming using Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle EBS R12, Oracle Application Framework, forms, reports, interfaces, customization, Shell scripting, Extensions and Workflows
    • 2+ years Oracle application development experience with various technical tools among core Oracle databases tools, OA Framework, Oracle forms/Reports.
    • Experience in configuration and setups for AOL module
    • Well versed with the underlying database architecture, table structures and master data for key EBS modules
    • 2+ years of experience in software applications (preferred)
    • Working knowledge of software development and support methodologies
    • Demonstrated skill in preparation and maintenance of implementation documents
    • Experience in developing integrations using SOA middleware, Java and XML
    • Exposure to tools like JDeveloper and Eclipse will be a plus
    • Certification in Oracle Technologies (OCA, DBA), .NET Framework. (added advantage)
    • Experience in integrating Oracle Applications with various formats including flat-file (CSV), XML, and SOAP/REST.
    • Detailed technical knowledge of Oracle Finance, HCM, iProcurement and Oracle Purchasing.
    • Technical proficiency with Oracle SOA Suite, and Oracle extensions.
