    Temporary Study Coordinator

    Job description

    We seek to recruit a Temporary Study Coordinator for our research team to be based in HomaBay and Kisumu for a period of 6 months. The Study coordinator will be responsible for overseeing all daily study operations in Homa Bay and Kisumu,including supervising study personnel,maintaining up-to-date study protocols and approvals, and liaising with key stakeholders, both locally and internationally. S/he will must be self-directed, working with minimal supervision, and must be committed to providing services and care for vulnerable populations, s/he will report to the Study Manager and Principal Investigator.

    Key Duties And Responsibilities

    • Plan and coordinate the initiation of research study protocol, and the establishment of operating policies and procedures.
    • Participate in training and capacity building of research assistants and other research study personnel.
    • Preparing and conducting pre-study activities, selection and initiation visits, routine monitoring and closure visits.
    • Responsible for the sites and on-site management during the study process.
    • Order and coordinate study supplies.
    • Plan, implement, and maintain data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocol.
    • Instructs and coordinate research and program assistants, as appropriate to specific study objectives and work scope.
    • Monitor the progress of research activities; develop and maintain records of research activities, and prepare periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies.
    • Plan and coordinate regular advisory board and steering committee meetings.
    • Ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities; acts as the primary administrative point of contact for internal research staff and as the principle operational liaison for local collaborating institutions, organizations and regulating bodies.
    • Implement quality control process throughout the conduct of the study.
    • Assist and support the data validation and clean file procedure, ensuring data standards are met.
    • Plan and participate in Investigator meetings.
    • Collating site status data.
    • Supervise and coordinate the provision of support services to investigators and researchers.

    Required Skills

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree; post-graduate training added advantage
    • Basic clinical training (e.g. HIV Testing Services certification desirable)
    • Minimum of two years of research experience (such as coordinating a research study), or: data collection experience coupled with at least two years of program coordination experience
    • Demonstrated experience working with adolescent girls and young women
    • Familiarity with community-based research principles
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal
    • Computer competency including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
    • Familiarity with data storage and analysis systems such as SPPS is an asset
    • Familiarity with managing the collection, packaging and shipment of biological samples highly desired
    • Works under minimum supervision
    • Dependable and upholding the highest levels of honesty and confidentiality
    • High attention to detail and problem-solving skills
    • Willingness to travel within Kisumu and Homabay County

    Temporary Research Assistants

    Job description

    We seek to recruit five (5) Temporary Research Assistants for our research team to be based in HomaBay and Kisumu for a period of 5 months. S/he will must be self-directed, working with minimal supervision, and must be committed to providing services and care for vulnerable populations, s/he will report to the Study Coordinator.

    Key Duties And Responsibilities

    • Interact with potential respondents and study participants with the highest levels of integrity, sensitivity and understanding.
    • Conduct study participant recruitment and informed consent procedures according to the ethical requirements of conduct of research.
    • Maintain complete records of all sampled AGYWs indicating their enrollment status and, reasons for refusals.
    • Collect data through means such as phone, participant interviews, and observations.
    • Perform blood draws from AGYWs and maintain procedures for drying and packaging blood samples.
    • Maintain confidentiality while collecting sensitive behavioral data from AGYWs.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to improve data collection skills and tools.
    • Take careful notes in order to improve data collection tools and methods.
    • Conduct data entry using mobile phones.
    • Promptly communicate any technical or logistical problems to Study Coordinator.
    • Facilitate resolution of any issues that come up with recruitment and enrollment.
    • Communicate promptly with Study Coordinator to maintain adequate supplies of study documents and other study supplies at sites.
    • Attend to other administrative duties as assigned.
    • Work with Study Coordinator to implement any changes to data collection tools or methods.
    • Safeguard source documents and CRFs and ensure data quality.

    Required Skills

    Required Experience

    • High school graduate or equivalent
    • HIV Testing Services certification required
    • Previous research experience (such as conducting informed consent procedures) desired
    • Proficient in use of SMS and other mobile phone-based communication
    • Excellent communication skills: Must be able to communicate regularly and effectively with Study Coordinator and other study staff
    • Team player with ability to work closely with Study Coordinator and other study staff
    • Works under minimum supervision
    • Dependable and upholding the highest levels of honesty and confidentiality
    • High attention to detail and problem-solving skills
    • Willingness to travel within Kisumu and Homabay County
