    Software Development Technical Mentor

    Why We Are Hiring for This Role 

    Moringa School is in an exciting transition from a primarily Nairobi-based school to an international education organization via rapid growth across Africa and expansion into new course offerings. We are a premier advanced immersive program, training exceptional full-stack and mobile Software Engineers. Students train 10+ hours a day, 5 days a week, through 20 weeks in a curriculum focused on computer science fundamentals, frontend skills, and Python/Django or Java/Android. We are looking for a talented, organized, systems-oriented thinker to provide management, leadership, and accountability to a high performance team in support of the mission and core values of the company. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience building software systems, and working well in diverse teams, even in a chaotic environment. The Technical Mentor role provides the mentorship and supervision necessary to ensure that their students have a 5-star experience and achieve strong outcomes.

    What You Have

    • 2+ years experience working, at least 1+ years experience professional coding in languages used in the classroom
    • Bachelor's degree in a related field
    • Lots of patience and empathy, ability to work well with and accommodate the needs of other people
    • Strong problem solving abilities to handle complex situations involving many people
    • Ability to work with and mentor large, diverse groups of people
    • Positive, empathetic, team-player with a systems-mindset
    • Ability to multitask and strategically solve diverse problems
    • Coding school alumni (preferred) 
    • Experience teaching, working in education, or program management (preferred) 

    What You Will Do

    • Lead and coordinate all classroom activities for your class
    • Responsibility for class and student success and happiness.
    • Weekly 1.1’s with students, including personal check-in and independent project review
    • Disciplinary follow-up for all incomplete independent projects
    • Disciplinary follow-up for all academic and interpersonal issues
    • Fill out and maintain student tracking, come up with plans for success of all students
    • Raise red flags early when students are not on track!
    • Kick off and run all daily activities, such as: daily standup, peer review hour, etc
    • Master TM responsibilities and processes to ensure quality is maintained
    •  Once TM mastery is achieved, iterate on processes such as classroom structure, curriculum, etc by providing good feedback and insights, doing (very calculated) experiments, and updating documentation

    Graduate Support Associate

    Key Responsibilities

    • Career coaching
    • Empower graduates to make reasoned major/career choices and to develop realistic implementation plans.
    • Ability to do career guidance and counselling, and career planning for early career developers.
    • Soft skills and job readiness support
    • Improve student preparedness for professionalism in the workplace by assisting graduates with job skills that will allow them to be successful in their job search, including resume and letter writing; interviewing; job search strategies.
    • Coordinate the dissemination of employment opportunity information to ensure timely reactions to job listings
    • Employer Relations
    • Identify, develop and secure relationships with employers to hire graduates through internship and/or direct hire job opportunities.
    • Data Collection, Tracking and Analysis
    • Ensure that we meet or exceed job placement rate as established by organization
    • Keep detailed and accurate records relating to internship and job search process for each graduate
    • Analyze data from records to draw out insights and communicate insights and recommendations to both the Access and BD & Outcomes Teams to inform improvements in program design
    • Graduate Administrative support
    • Evaluate student needs and liaise with the core Access team to ensure students have access to resources to unblock their ability to get into employment.

    Key Competencies

    • Experience working with post-high school or university students required
    • Knowledge of youth empowerment/ skills development programs.
    • Ability to conduct Job readiness skills training to students and alumni as they navigate early career realities.
    • Ability to form and manage key stakeholder partnerships
    • Passionate about Career Coaching
    • Data collection and analysis
    • Ability to train on Job search strategies and job readiness skills
    • Efficient time and task management skills: the ability to plan and integrate a number of different tasks and achieve required outcomes

    Qualifications

    • Any relevant degree
    • 3 years experience in career coaching and job placement
    • Strong communication skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment.
    • Extremely detail-oriented and organized.
    • Able to work independently and as a team member, participating in a positive manner toward achieving the mission of the division.
    • Ability to analyze and define problems, collect data, establish and evaluate facts, draw valid conclusions, and make and implement decisions.
    • Tendency to take initiative- come up with ideas, proactively solve problems, make suggestions to improve processes, etc.
    • People-person: good relationship building and management skills.
    • Familiarity with and experience using Google products (drive, calendar, etc)
    • Basic data analysis and visualization skills

    Special Projects Associate

    What you will do

    • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects
    • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
    • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
    • Track project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term goals
    • Develop comprehensive project plans to be shared with clients as well as other staff members
    • Participate with other staff on working groups outside of the project scope
    • Support in business development and sales activities in engaging with external stakeholders and clients.
    • Schedule and coordinate logistics for meetings, calls and site visits
    • Conduct research on different strategic initiatives
    • Prepare and present business plans along with overall strategy for every initiative
    • Coordinate interactions and ensure to streamline stakeholders, cross functional teams and Senior Management teams
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested

    Who you are

    • Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
    • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a professional office environment coordinating basic projects, performing complex scheduling and writing correspondence
    • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), flexible, ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment.
    • Extremely organized.
    • Able to work as a team member and participate in a positive manner toward achieving the mission of the division.
    • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, and as part of a team.
    • Comfort with quantitative data, budgets and financial information.
    • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google Suite
    • Strong expertise working with Trello/Asana/Jira
    • Project Management Professional (PMP)/PRINCE II/SCRUM certification is a plus
