    Principal Investigations Officer

    IPOA/HR/17/2016
    IPOA GRADE 4
    Consolidated Salary Kes.184,000-279,000

    The Principal Investigations Officer will be responsible to the Director, Investigations through the Head of Investigations.

    Investigations Officer Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities

    • Planning and coordinating team activities;
    • Allocating team functions to individual team members and monitoring performance;
    • Assessing and prioritizing team workloads;
    • Supervising and coordinating available resources against workloads, managing team functions including cases from reception to final report writing, ensuring efficient workload;
    • Overseeing the day to day tasks and performance of the team members, coaching and mentoring team members, and identifying individual and collective training needs;
    • Gathering and presenting regular accurate updates to Head of Investigations;
    • Providing guidance and advice to team members on investigations function;
    • Auditing investigations files to ensure adherence to IPOA standards;
    • Liaising with other internal departments on investigations issues, external agencies such as ODPP, Judiciary and other actors in criminal justice administration;
    • Ensuring compliance with directorate and Authority objectives, policies, procedures, annual work plan and strategic plan;
    • Disseminating and implementing Directorate’s decisions;
    • Leading and conducting investigations into major cases and public interest cases;
    • Any other related duties as may be assigned to you by Management from time to time.

    Profile

    • Must be a citizen of Kenya.
    • Meets the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya.

    Required Functional Skills for the Investigations Officer Job

    • Served for a minimum period of three (3) years in the grade of Senior
    • Investigations Officer or nine (9) years in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service or Private Sector;
    • A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines:- Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law, Social Sciences or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
    • Registered with a relevant Professional Body where applicable;
    • Shown merit, integrity and ability as reflected in work performance and results;
    • Strong managerial skills, including motivating, developing, coaching and leading teams;
    • Training in senior management course lasting not less than three (3) weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.

    Required Behavioural Skills

    • A candidate must be a person of integrity, demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and be a team player;
    • Ability to maintain confidence and trust regarding sensitive issues.
