    Outreach and Communication Intern

    Responsibilities

    Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

    Under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Research and Capacity Development Branch, the intern’s duties may include, but are not limited to:
    -Develop and implement an integrated strategic outreach and communication plan for the City Prosperity Initiative (CPI)
    -Coordinate and provide expertise to editorial, digital, media relations and design of the CPI
    -Ensure that the CPI message is aligned with its mission, the UN-Habitat mandate, the 2030 Agenda as well as the New Urban Agenda.
    -Ensure that communications, in all formats, are developed and executed at an exemplary level and consistent in messaging and brand standards.
    -Coordinate and develop strategic outreach initiatives for increasing awareness around the CPI
    -Oversee and provide content to the to the outreach to the communication tools and platform
    -Assist in the preparation of documentation and in the communication and information management for projects of the City Prosperity Initiative, including the development of partnerships with cities and multilateral organization
    -Communicate with media and other interested parties, within and outside the UN system, to announce the updates and any information regarding the CPI
    -Conceptualize and plan events and outreach meetings on the CPI
    -Prepare briefing papers, case studies, research papers, and presentations on related topics.
    -Undertake other assignments as required for the development and implementation of the work programme of the Research and Capacity Development Branch
    -Participate in the daily operations of the Branch by supporting the staff in the performance of their tasks and responsibilities, including taking part in meetings, project reviews, etc.; As required, participate in meetings of the Branch as required to share findings, brainstorm on issues and contribute to the development of the prosperous cities initiative.

    Education

    Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
    a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
    b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
    c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

    Be computer literate in standard software applications.

    Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

    Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

    Preferred area of study:
    Studies in communications,Marketing and Journalism preferred.Studies related to city-branding will be considered beneficial.

    Work Experience

    Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. Academic or research experience would be an asset.

    Languages

    English is the working language of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of Arabic, French or Chinese is desirable.
