    Legal Officer

    Legal Officer Job Duties and Responsibilities

    • Support in the follow up on investigations and prosecution of electoral offenses and breach of electoral code of conduct;
    • Assist in the follow up on legal disputes and petitions to ascertain that they are handled effectively inclusive of the use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms;
    • Draft statutory reports on the Commission to ensure that the activities of all directorates are in line with legal guidelines to protect the Commission from litigation liabilities;
    • Support in the drafts of legal and regulatory reform documents for dispute resolutions arising from nominations as per Article 88(4)(e);
    • Support in the follow up on hearings and determination of breach of electoral code of conduct by candidate and political parties;
    • Draft the publications of legal gazette notices through quality legal research and advice to the commission on legal reform;
    • Support in the drafts of contracts, leases and Memorandum of understanding(MOU) and agreements on behalf of the Commission;
    • Assist in the follow up on legal disputes including petitions, civil cases, employment and procurement cases;
    • Support in the draft of legal and regulatory reform proposals and preventive legal strategies; and
    • Assist in legal research and electoral reform to develop informed legal opinions and make strong legislative proposals.

    Requirements for the Legal Officer Job

    • Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized institution;
    • Post graduate diploma in law;
    • Member of LSK of good standing;
    • Knowledge of advocacy;
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation;
    • Good interpretation of the law;
    • Computer literacy;
    • Knowledge of electoral frame work; and
    • 3 years of service in a comparable position from a reputable organization.

    Integrity Clearance

    In addition to the qualifications set above, the applicants must further meet and get the following clearances:

    • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
    • Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
    • Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
    • Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
    • Chief Executive Officer, Higher Education Loans Board.
    • Professional bodies (where applicable) to which the applicant belongs eg LSK, ICPAK, AAK, IEK etc.
    • Credit Reference Bureau Africa Ltd or Metropol Credit Reference Bureau.
