Technical Head of Product at Echo Mobile

Role

This role is a senior management position within our growing, dynamic engineering team as we expand the capabilities and the usability of our product suite. The head of product sits with our management team and plays an active role in product and business strategy. A successful HOP will be on track for transition to a C-level role.

This is a full-time position based at our offices in Lavington, Nairobi, Kenya. Compensation is competitive.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Take ownership of core Echo Mobile platform and related product offerings.

• Lead engineering team tasked with continuous testing, development, and rollout of new functionality.

• This is a technical role that involves direct development on the Echo platform.

• Manage the engineering team, lead daily scrums, perform frequent code reviews, and provide feedback in bi-annual performance reviews and quarterly 1-on-1s.

• Provide support and mentorship to junior technical staff.

• Work directly with organizational users to understand usability, address issues, and receive feedback.

• Participate in ideation and feasibility studies on new Echo offerings and potential product features and spin-offs.

• Meet regularly with CTO to review progress towards milestones, task throughput, barriers needing attention, and KPIs.

• Analyze product usage trends to ensure we are always exceeding the expectations of our organizational users.

• Continually review Echo's engineering systems and development operations to identify weaknesses, improve access to operational data needed to effectively run our business.

Qualifications

• Either living in Nairobi or willing to relocate.

• Deep experiencing with Python as a web technology.

• Highly skilled technical mind with a proven track record designing, developing and launching software products.

• Self-managed, proactive, and good at working with a small team.

• Passionate about technology, technical products and the creative process.

• Experience developing scalable web-based applications.

• Experiencing designing and implementing A/B tests to guide product development.

• Experience managing one or more developers, and excellent knowledge of development tools and systems.

• Experience in frontend UI design (Jquery, React.js, Backbone, Angular, etc)
