    Role Responsibility

    This role requires a combination of regional knowledge, newswriting and research skills, and is pivotal to ensuring that BBC Monitoring creates products that deliver high value to users. On a day-to-day basis, you will contribute to BBC Monitoring’s coverage of Africa by monitoring vernacular and other media for news developments.

    You will prepare background information and create products in a range of formats in collaboration with other BBCM journalists. You will also be involved in integrating video, images, graphics and data into BBCM's output.

    You will be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date database of personalities, organisations and source information on Africa, using the best technology for gathering and surfacing reliable information.

    The Ideal Candidate

    You will have an excellent knowledge of one (or more) of the following languages: Swahili, Somali, Amharic, Tigrinya, Oromo, French, Arabic, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Kinyrwanda/Kirundi and/or any other language dominant in Africa’s media scene.  An interest in international news and media developments is essential. 

    You must be a good communicator and team-worker, with strong interpersonal skills. You are someone who is good with detail and has the ability to spot a story. Reporting to the Editorial Lead, you will also be expected to work closely with BBC colleagues in other editorial departments.

    Willingness and enthusiasm to embrace new ways of working and new technology to analyse information and produce content is essential.
