    Qualitative Research Consultants

    Job description

    Project Description

    The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), with funding from Wellspring Philanthropic Fund, is "Assessing the effectiveness of interventions on Women’s Land Rights Social Norms in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda." Specifically, ICRW is conducting a qualitative assessment of the Securing Your Family’s Future (SYFF) course for men, a course designed to shift peer norms among men on women’s land and property rights.

    This project will cover the first phase of that effort, specifically, the collection of qualitative baseline data. This data will be used both to understand the current state of men’s knowledge, attitudes, self-efficacy, future intentions and perceptions of peer norms related to women’s land and property rights and to later evaluate the impact of the course by comparing these baseline findings with mid- and endline results.

    ICRW seeks Consultant(s) (two per country) to be based in each of the countries (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda) who have significant, demonstrated experience in conducting qualitative research, analyzing qualitative data, and developing high quality research reports. Throughout the project the Consultant(s) will work and communicate closely with the ICRW research team.

    The period of performance is up to 35 days over 5-month period (between April and August 2018).

    Primary Duties

    • Assist in following up the local IRB review process

    • Assist in tracing and contacting sampled survey participants

    • Conduct approximately 10 in-depth interviews (IDIs) and 5 participatory focus group discussions (FGDs) (estimated May 2018)
    • Translate and transcribe 10 IDIs and 2-3 FGDs
    • Co-create codebook
    • Conduct inter-coder reliability, then code 10 IDIs and 2-3 FGDs in Nvivo
    • Conduct thematic, deductive qualitative data analysis including the creation of code summaries
    • Draft a research report summarizing the key findings related to men’s knowledge, attitude, behaviors, and peer norms related to land rights at baseline

    Requirements

    Qualified candidates will have:

    • A Masters (required) or higher (preferred) degree in a relevant field;
    • Demonstrated experience conducting qualitative research, including KIIs and FGDs (required);
