    Area Engineer - Sugar House

    Ref. CHEMELIL SUGAR COMPANY LTD/AEP/2018

    Responsible for the planning, programming and ensuring optimum availability of mechanical plant and machinery for efficient cane offloading and milling to achieve targeted cane through put and parameters for maximum sugar production.

    Responsibilities

    Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Coordinates inspection of all equipment and plant to ensure that they are in a good working condition.
    • Plans and carries out periodic mini weekly and annual maintenance tasks timely and efficiently.

    Operational Responsibilities / Tasks

    • Inspects all equipment’s and plant to ensure they are in good working condition.
    • Plans periodic weekly maintenance tasks and ensure they are carried out and in time.
    • Requests and inspects spares required for plant maintenance.
    • Ensures safe working conditions and safety of personnel and equipment.
    • Ensures cane handling, feeding and preparation is achieved to give targeted preparation index.
    • Ensures maximum throughput and recovery of sucrose from cane is achieved and parameters targeted for mill extraction e.g. pol extraction, pol % bag and moisture % bagasse are attained.
    • Prepares budgets for operations and maintenance of plant and equipment for approval
    • Prepares annual maintenance schedule and in consultation with Mechanical Engineering Maintenance
    • Coordinator on manning levels and requirements.
    • Runs a condition monitoring system to get feedback and plant condition all the time.
    • Provides technical leadership, develop, implement and evaluate strategic management plans and budgets aimed at improving performance standards and organizational effectiveness.
    • Plans, monitors and evaluates staff performance against set targets and objectives.
    • Proposes plant modification and expansion then implement when approved.

    Financial Responsibility:

    • Responsible for section budgets.
    • Responsible for Physical Assets assigned by the company.

    Decision Making / Job Influence

    • Make decisions using standard working procedures.
    • Plans, assigns work to subordinates and Monitor subordinates work performance.
    • Appraise/evaluate subordinates performance.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Professional Qualifications/Membership to professional bodies I.E.K and/or be registered engineer with engineers board (ERB)
    • At least 5 years relevant experience gained from a large manufacturing concern with minimum 3 years in the sugar industry preferably at Process House Juice treatment.

    Competencies/Attributes:

    • Conversant with plant mechanical systems.
    • ICT skills.
    • Organization and coordination skills.
    • Supervisory skills.
    • Good technical specialized skills in milling technology.
    • Knowledgeable in sugar technology.

    Other Requirements:

    • A Certificate of Good Conduct from Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
    • A Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Boards (HELB).
    • A Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
    • A Clearance Certificate by the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
    • Clearance from the Ethics & and Ant-Corruption Commission (EACC).
