    Research Assistant for Implementation Research Pillar

    Samuel Hall is seeking a motivated Research Assistant to join its Resilience Pillar for six months to one year in Nairobi, Kenya. The responsibilities of the Research Assistant are to: Support the Project Lead on one or more research projects, Conduct secondary research and literature review, Assist in the design of research tools and research frameworks, Participate in fieldwork and conduct qualitative interviews and data analysis, Conduct advanced data analysis on SPSS, Stata or Excel

    Tasks to be performed under the contract

    - IMPLEMENTATION RESEARCH PILLAR SUPPORT

    Support the Implementation Research Pillar to advance work in Sub Saharan Africa, Coordinate relevant Implementation Research work, Support other Pillars as needed.

    - RESEARCH PROJECT SUPPORT

    Operations: Train field teams on components of the project cycle, Support and monitor field teams’ work, including solving field problems, Effectively communicate with supervisors on progress with daily updates, Provide input to improve the quality of the field teams’ notes, transcript and outputs, Support identification and development of grant and other proposals relevant to Implementation Research work.

    Research: Support the design or design research tools and research methodology in collaboration with the research team, Support/conduct secondary research – literature review and secondary data analysis, Support/conduct analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, Participate in quantitative and qualitative fieldwork, Liaise with supervisors (in country and remotely) to improve quality of outputs, Provide strong analysis and recommendations in line with policy and academic standards, Under the supervision of the Pillar Lead and Project Teams, transcribe interview notes, write field reports, field diaries, progress updates, and contribute to the draft/final reports.

    In-country support: Identify local researchers, interviewers and enumerators for research projects, Liaise with potential partners to build Samuel Hall’s network under guidance of the Pillar Lead and Country/Regional Representative

    Applicants will need to possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications and transferable skills:

    • Interest and experience working in Information Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D),
    • Excellent spoken and written skills in English,
    • Keen attention to detail,
    • Ability to being patient and to work well within a team,
    • Ability to cope well under pressure, work occasionally irregular hours and meet tight deadlines
