BBC News is seeking an energetic and talented front-end web developer with strong technical and programming skills to join our Visual Journalism team in Nairobi and help refine and expand our customer-facing web pages.

Role Responsibility

• You will closely work with journalists and designers to make a great mutual product, whilst supporting and being supported by the Visual Journalism development team throughout the globe.
• Recent examples of our work include world cup predictors, royal wedding data projects, crime statistics, illustration boards, AMP stories, life expectancy calculators and political manifesto comparisons.
• With integration of latest technology and journalism, we are expanding globally as a Media and Broadcasting giant – be a part of an exciting journey with BBC Nairobi ,Kenya.

Your Fundamental Responsibilities Will Be As Follows

• Liaise with editorial and design to create ideas for future projects
• Work within an inter-disciplinary team to create world class products
• Develop effective bespoke software that meets given specification
• Write appropriate tests using automated test driven techniques to ensure code quality

Skills And Competencies That We Are Looking For

• Good knowledge of JS (ES6) and widespread libraries;
• Work experience with CSS-pre-processes (Less/SCSS/Stylus);
• An understanding of front end optimisation techniques;
• Basic knowledge of server based development (Node, Ruby, PHP, or Python etc);
• Knowledge of d3.js or similar would be a plus;
• Some knowledge of Angular or React framework would be a plus;
• Good English language skills
