    Research Assistant I (Social Economics/Economist)

    An officer at this grade will be required to independently initiate and implement research projects.

    Duties and responsibilities at this cadre will include:-

    • problem identification;
    • formulating research project/ proposals;
    • study design;
    • implementing research projects;
    • engagement in inter-disciplinary research;
    • preparing technical reports and scientific publications;
    • using other methods to disseminate research findings in their areas of specialization;
    • providing guidance to junior research scientists/interns in their areas of expertise; and
    • any other duties as may be assigned from time to time..

    Qualifications

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

    • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of C+ (Plus) or equivalent;
    • Bachelor’s honors degree or equivalent degree in any of the following fields: with specialization in Economics, Development Studies or relevant Social Sciences or any other relevant disciplines from a recognized University;
    • Master’s degree in any of the following fields: Economics, Statistics, Development Studies or relevant Social Sciences or relevant equivalent from a recognized Institution;
    • Proven knowledge of Economic software’s including SPSS and Stata; and
    • Evidence of engagement in community work or other related contributions;
    • A minimum of six (6) peer reviewed publications with at least three (3) first authorship as a Research Scientist II;
    • Participated in development of at least one research proposal;
    • Satisfactorily served as a Research Scientist II or equivalent position for a minimum period of three (3) years.
