    Instructional Coach

    Role description and main tasks:

    The coach shall be responsible for supporting school teachers seeking to improve teaching and learning within their schools. The coach will be tasked to facilitate change within schools by supporting teachers so that they can model excellence in effective pedagogy and development. These goals will be achieved through modelling, co-planning, providing feedback, and facilitating reflective conversations with teachers.

    Key roles and responsibilities shall be:

    • Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers with a focus on improving learner achievement.
    • Organize classroom observation visits to schools with follow up on a regular basis to offer instructional coaching especially to teachers
    • Plan and communicate with schools in advance of school visits
    • Build friendly relations with teachers and school heads to enhance coaching experience
    • Provide feedback to on classroom observations to teachers and AET
    • Prepare reports on visits for analysis (weekly) and preparation of a summative report (monthly)
    • Support the preparation of end of term assessments and collection of results
    • Prepare monthly work plans
    • Supervise Manyatta Learning Centres and Kindergarten’s
    • Supervise other AET/MTE activities e.g. porridge support, libraries in schools
    • Attend coaching related training and ensure fidelity of implementation
    • Attend AET related meetings and events.
    • Willing to take up any other duties that may be deemed necessary by the supervisor
    • To carry out all other reasonable duties which are necessary for the efficient running and management of the Trust.

    Person Specification

    Essential

    • Qualified teacher registered with the Teacher Service Commission (TSC)
    • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in education
    • Demonstrable experience of coaching and developing teachers, improving pedagogical methods and developing their ‘child-centered’ approach to learning.
    • Ability to model a class as a means of demonstrating effective teaching practice where necessary
    • Ability to seek solutions especially when called upon by a teacher (e.g. when trying to identify a particular approach towards delivery of lesson)
    • Experience and ability in managing community education initiatives and achieving community support
    • Flexible and ‘can-do’ attitude
    • Other essential requirements
    • Must have the right to work in Kenya
    • Willingness and ability to work in a hardship area (DolDol-Laikipia North)
