    Regional Grants and Contracts Manager

    The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking an experienced Grants & Contracts (G&C) Manager with excellent skills and demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating funding awards and providing guidance and oversight of G&C’s portfolio and ensuring the processes are compliant with donor’s and CIP’s requirements.

    About the role: The Regional G&C Manager position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya managing SSA Regional Grants and Contracts portfolio (donor and partner portfolio); ensuring compliance of projects in accordance with donor, CIP and CGIAR guidelines, procedures and requirements in the post award phase of the project life cycle. The position will support the capacity building of CIP field-based staff on the subject of G&C compliance.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Manage part of SSA Regional portfolio of awards (donor, prime, sub recipient) as G&C contact point, acting as representative of the G&C HQ unit, in coordination with SSA Regional Director, G&C Manager SSA, Program Leaders, Principal Investigators, Project Managers and Regional Staff;
    • Review of all donor and subrecipient (partner) award transactions, in collaboration with other functional areas such as Program, Project Management Unit (PMU), Finance, Legal/Intellectual Property, Administration and/or HR for review and approval;
    • Responsible for drafting, negotiating and approval for signature (as defined in the delegation of authority) of subrecipient agreements and project-related collaboration MoUs in collaboration with other functional areas such as Program, PMU, Finance, Legal/Intellectual Property, Administration and/or HR for review and approval;
    • Conduct change management of transactions that require a modification to donor or subrecipient awards;
    • Ensure adherence to applicable delegation of authority policies as they relate to signatory delegation of authority powers;
    • Maintain up-to-date database and repository of all SSA regional signed awards, project related MoUs and Hosting Agreements in OCS *and/or Knowledge Management G&C public and internal sites and PMU Project sites;**
    • Participate in development of institutional policies, guidance documents and procedures;
    • Support the Unit Head in the provision of contractual input at pre-award phase of project life cycle;
    • Support HQ and Regional initiatives to build capacities and train CIP regional and field staff on grants and contract compliance and donor’s requirements;
    • Support HQ technical reporting function ensuring timely follow up with SSA principal investigators on submission deadlines and response to donor queries;
    • Participate in project life cycle reviews and meetings (Start up and Close-out Meetings);
    • Comply with national and international health and safety laws, regulations and standards. *

    OCS refers to the One Corporate System (ERP).

    What are we looking for?

    • Master’s degree in International Development, Business Administration or related field, or Bachelor’s degree in Law or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • At least 7 years of relevant work experience in an international organization / NGOs or project-based organizations.
    • Demonstrated experience in grants and contracts management, with at least 2 multinational development organizations, at a global scale.
    • USAID experience preferred;
    • Familiarity with best practices in grants and contracts management.
    • Project Management for Development certification preferred
    • Advanced written and oral communication skills in English.

    What are the conditions?

    The position is Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position limited to Kenya nationals and permanent residents only. The employment contract will be for a one-year term (with a 3-month probation period) and the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

    Important: This position requires temporary relocation to CIP Headquarters in Lima, Peru during the first 2 months (approximately) for capacity building purposes.
