Assistant Editor, Africa TV at BBC World Service

Role Responsibility

Reporting to the Africa TV Programmes Editor, your role is to manage and develop new BBC Africa teams to produce TV and digital content.  You will launch new weekly TV programmes and deliver digital video content for our audiences.  We expect you to take the editorial lead on BBC Africa’s discussions coverage, converting technology information and data into comprehensible broadcast material for a wide variety of African audiences.

Are you the right candidate?

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in a senior journalistic role, with a track record of delivering high impact, creative, multiplatform video and TV content for an African audience.  You will be an experienced leader with a background in managing a team of journalists.  A demonstrable knowledge of delivering factual magazine and discussions programmes is essential.  You will have excellent contacts and the ability to explain and deconstruct information for audiences.  You will have knowledge of the African media market and the changing needs of the audience.  Knowledge of African and international current affairs is highly important.  Fluency in English is necessary; African language skills would be advantageous.
