    Research Consultant

    Job description

    In the preparatory stage of the above-mentioned research study, EACHRights is seeking an experienced consultant to facilitate pre-study activities in Garissa County as detailed in section 3 below. These activities under the preparatory phase will give EACHRights an opportunity to have a better understanding of the context, get input from end-users of survey findings, have buy-in from stakeholders and hence increase uptake of future survey findings.

    Tasks

    The scope of the consultancy will be to:

    • Facilitate a county stakeholder mapping and context analysis workshop whose objective will be to;
      • map out FGM/C stakeholders (people or institutions that are likely to use the survey data.
      • introduce the survey and get the input/views of stakeholders on some of the issues they would like to be captured in the survey (participatory research approach).
    • Collating the data obtained from the stakeholders’ workshop.
    • Analysing the data obtained from the stakeholders’ workshop and submit a report on the same.
    • Development of the data collection tools (questionnaires) to be used in the research study.

    Minimum Requirements and Competences

    • Advanced University degree in Social Studies.
    • Strong background and experience in qualitative, quantitative and policy research.
    • Experience in conducting social research and analysis is desirable (sexual gender-based violence, FGM, health issues etc).
    • Robust data analysis skills (both quantitative and qualitative).
    • Good understanding of the local context and related issues.
    • Excellent communication skills in presentations and report writing.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Kiswahili.

    Deliverables

    • High quality and comprehensive stakeholder mapping and context analysis report
    • Research data collection tools developed

    Supervision

    The Consultant is expected to be self-motivated and able to work independently. However, partnership and support will be provided by the Watoto Wetu project team in organizing the Garissa county stakeholder mapping and context analysis workshop.
