Agriculture Engineer II -Mechanisation Extensions (AMS) at Siaya County Government

Duties and Responsibilities

• Providing an efficient and timely mechanization extension service;
• Developing an appropriate technology curriculum for farmers and extension staff concerning machinery servicing, calibration, maintenance and application, land preparation techniques, crop harvesting and use of other appropriate tools and equipment;
• Organization and implementation of mechanization extension programmes related to farm power, farm mechanization, mechanized soil and water conservation service and other related land development services;
• Mobilizing and sensitizing stakeholders on the need for inventorying of all machines and equipment available for private contracting;
• Organizing courses, field demonstrations on improved mechanization practices and technologies, advising farmers on most appropriate machinery and soil and water conservation structures;
• Liaising with extension officers on organizing mechanization extension courses in the mandate area;
• Promotion of exploitation of the existing potential for agricultural development in the catchment areas;
• Conducting survey and maintaining up to date records of machinery and equipment inventories and applications in the catchment districts in liaison with relevant SCAO;
• Participating in Ploughing contests;
• Preparing work plans and budgets; and
• Compilation of periodic reports.

Requirements for Appointment

• Kenyan Citizen
• Must be in possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in a field of Agricultural Engineering or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Must be registered as a graduate Engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK)
• Master’s Degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage
• Must be in possession of current certificate of good standing from Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK)
• Having at least 1-year experience in farmer training and/or curriculum development will be an added advantage
• Certification in computer applications.
