Art Teacher at Peponi House Preparatory School

Summary of responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, inclusive and inspiring Art teaching across different ages and abilities.
• Plan progressive lessons that develop pupils’ creativity, technical skills, knowledge, confidence and enjoyment of Art.
• Assess pupils’ progress and provide effective feedback to support improvement.
• Contribute to displays, exhibitions, activities, productions and the wider creative life of the school.
• Work collaboratively with the Head of Department and colleagues to maintain high standards of teaching, behaviour, safety and pupil welfare.
• Support the effective organisation, care and safe use of Art materials, tools, equipment and learning spaces.

Main duties

• Be responsible for the quality of teaching and learning of all pupils who are assigned to the post holder.
• Supervise the work of any support staff who are assigned to work with the post holder’s pupils.
• Support the Head of Department with responsibilities including, where appropriate, preparing teaching and learning materials; managing Health & Safety, resources and behaviour in lessons; contributing to curriculum planning and self-evaluation; advising on appropriate resources and materials; and supporting exhibitions, displays and creative events.
• Contribute actively to the co-curricular life of the school, including Art clubs, activities and wider creative opportunities.
• Be a contributory member of the wider staff team.
• Cover for absent colleagues where appropriate and undertake supervisory or pastoral duties as reasonably required.

Qualifications and Experience

• A relevant qualification in Art, Art Education, Fine Art or a related discipline, together with appropriate teaching experience or recognised teaching qualification.
• Strong subject knowledge and practical experience across a range of artistic media, techniques and processes.
• Experience teaching Art to children at preparatory-school level is desirable.
• Experience within an IAPS or similar preparatory-school setting is desirable.
